Boston, MA cool city..lacks vintage…unless I missed something here!

Hello fellow fashionistas. Sorry I haven’t written in awhile, but the show (Ebony Fashion Fair) has been hectic as well as time consuming. I find myself, always wondering what to write about because there is so much you can talk about, fashion wise, that pertains to Ebony Fashion Fair (EFF). Therefore, I am going to talk about my vintage adventure in good ole’ bean town….Boston, MA. We arrived in Boston on Sept. 25th and I feel in love at first sight with the marina located right across from the Seaport Hotel (this is where our show was being held). Didn’t have much time to go shopping that day because I didn’t get back to my hotel from the fashion show until around 7pm and on a Sunday we all know the stores are closed.

The next day (Sept. 26th) I venture out to Newbury St., which from what I am told is like the Rodeo Dr. of Boston. But I have never been prisoner to label stores such as La Perla, Gucci, Prada, etc. Whenever I go to a new city I always, always scout out the vintage or consignment stores. Due to my oversleeping ( I was tired as hell), I was unable to truly check out all the vintage/consignment stores I could find.

So I came across one particular store, Second Time Around, and was in heaven when I walked in . Second Time Around has two stores located on Newbury St. and the first one I went to was the one located at 176 Newbury St. There I was greeted by an extremely friendly and knowledgeable sales associate, but forgot her name in the hunt for the perfect black slacks. Which I did happen to find - Diana von Furstenburg tuxedo pants for $30. Unheard of ! I also bought a beautifully beaded cardigan for $16 and a vintage Cartier wallet, that matches I purse I have, for $40.

Having been extremely satisfied with my purchases, the lady behind the counter directed me to go to their second store located at 252 Newbury St., which I did. There I found a boat load of items: A Prada skirt for $60, Louis Verdad top for $40, and Adidas vest for $12. Crazy huh! My thoughts exactly.

At the end of my mini consignment excursion, I spent about $150 total on everything and although I may not have much money to eat for the rest of the week, I will fashionably full.

Note: Second Time Around is located in Boston, MA at the following locations:
176 Newbury St. (617)247-3504
252 Newbury St. (617)266-1113

Milan Fashion Week wrap-up

First things first. We must get into more shows next year. Must.

Onto the wrap-up. It goes without saying that femininity is back big time in the world of fashion. New York’s was frocking good. It was all about skirts that made women beautiful, or it could be the other way around. The disheveled, unkempt look is thankfully gone.

London, according to Taina’s coverage was darker and definitely edgier for the spring.

Milan designers seemed to recognize that real women aren’t the waif thin models parading the runway. They have shape, they have form and they are still beautiful. Just look at the D&G line and you’ll understand what I am talking about.

Prada went the route of romance and could do no wrong. The designer showed aggressive form with the bright pink heels and the bamboo wedges. The clothes maintained the feminine edge so prevalent in Prada designs with a nod to the past.

Armani showed that the hourglass figure trumps the boyish cut every. single. time. The muted pastels, the sarong skirts and the sheer material.

Emilion Pucci Kept the feminine theme going, but Christian Lacroix’s last design for the label brought out the colors that Pucci is famous for. Oceanic blues, slight pinks all done in arcs. Definitely a highlight of the Milan fashion week.

In total, the era of the beautiful, feminine woman is back (as if it ever left) for spring.

Damn Skirts!

Ok, at the beginning of Spring when the boho skirts came out it was a little annoying. I remember 9 years ago when they where broomstick skirts and only vegetarians and vegan hippies wore them. (I admit I was one). Then, by June, the skirts had sequins and sparkles being added, then full skirts with sequin scenes on them. I was waiting for the first cold day so these skirts which all the fashion clones were buying up in multiple colors.

Well now they’re here for the fall in darker colors and heavier fabrics, everywhere from Bergdorf to Wal-Mart. WHY!?!?!?! Ok, maybe on a 7 year old but, after the Limited Too they should be BANNED, collected and thrown into a bon-fire in the name of Fashion. Come on ladies let them go-Please.

Emilio Pucci

With news of Christian Lacroix leaving Pucci, this show took on a special meaning. The pieces were the normal colorful Pucci fair. With a respectful nod to the 60s, models sauntered out on the runway in violet patterns of serpentined intermixed with blue and purple all in an arc-like form. These pieces on display really demonstrated vivid use of oceanic colors. Swimsuits that clung on in perfect fashion adorned the models. You knew genius was at work here. Bravo Christian Lacroix and good luck!
