Taking it easy today

Tuesday, September 13th, 2005 | Fashion Week Coverage | No Comments

Yesterday was a blur with a flurry of activities. The 8pm show zapped us of all our strength as we witnessed a variety of designers showing their wares south of the tent. We will post more information about that show and the designers later today. We head to the Bill Blass show at 11am today and a PETA press conference immediately afterwards . We will be bringing pictures and coverage of both those events. We may probably also attend the Nanette Lepore show in the evening as she is quickly becomming one of papierdoll’s favorite designers.

Stay here for all of Tuesday’s Fashion Weel NYC events.

We Are In!

So today I’m a bit less cynical than yesterday, if not a bit starstruck as well. Not only did we get into two awesome shows today, but I also attended two press conferences and saw Paris and Nicky Hilton walk right past me and pause in the Tent lobby for press photos. It has been a pretty surreal day.

As I mentioned earlier, I attended Joanna Mastroianni’s show which was amazing, and then later I attended Cynthia Steffe’s show, which displayed more muted colors including a lot of black. The whole feel of the show was a bit darker although there were some hints of white and red tones in a few pieces. The first press conference was to advertise Richard Branson’s new wine known as Virgin Vines, and he spoke briefly about it in front of tons of flashing cameras. The second conference was for Kinerase, a line of skincare products. Courtney Cox was there to help advertise and speak for the products because much of the proceeds go to benefit cancer research. I’d tell you even more, but I’m about to go to another show tonight. . . see things aren’t so bad for papierdoll afterall. :)

Photos for these events are coming soon!

Fashion Fun by Danielle Lemoine

Editor’s note: Danielle Lemoine is the photo editor for papierdoll.net, she attended the Indiashio fashion show and reports back in words and picture. Entry follows below.

What better way to kick off fashion week then with a party? On Thursday, September 8th , Brad Batory, founder of Indashio clothing, threw the magazine Lucire a 1st anniversary party at one of Manhattan’s hippest night spots, Crobar, located in Chelsea.

Featured at the event, were previews of Indashio’s 2006 spring line. With a fun theme of pink, models walked out onto to the Crobar red carpet posing for photographs, and modeling Indashio’s latest release of jewelry designs.

In attendance at the event, were Heatherette designer Richie Rich, The Apprentice’s Stacie J., L’oreal model Janine Green, Actress Kim Director, Lucire publisher Jack Yan and many others. Following a paparazzi session with a slew of photographers, Indashio and friends headed into the club to enjoy a night of music and fashion.

Joanna Mastroianni, an amazing show!

Monday, September 12th, 2005 | Fashion Week Coverage | 2 Comments

So far, by far Joanna Mastroianni has got to be my favorite show. I just came from the 9 am showing of her spring line and I must say that I am in love with her clothes.

The items that were being displayed were mostly solids and whites. The colors in particular were amazing. Forget the pantone color guides for a second. Forget the trends. Mastroianni’s line was throwing convention out the window and showing gorgeous colors. I almost want to skip the upcoming fall season. There were plenty of pastels, flowing skirts with multiple layers and chiffon. The statement being made was “here I am, look at me, in bright sunshine yellow!”

I think one of the reasons this show was my favorite was because the clothing was surprisingly wearable. What I mean by that is if I had tons of cash, I would buy them… in a heartbeat. Many of the outfits looked like almost anyone could wear even if you are not the supermodel body type. They hide what needs to be hidden and accentuate the good.

There was some conceptual high design pieces that probably could not be worn in daily outfits, but what was there for the most part gave ideas on how to put great pieces for the spring season together. An incredible show. Pictures to follow soon!

Today’s Schedule

Monday, September 12th, 2005 | Fashion Week Coverage | No Comments

This morning and the rest of the day is ridiculously busy. We are scheduled to go to the 9am show to see Joanna Mastroianni vamp-y womenswear collection. There’s the Carolina Herrera show right after that at 10am and a press conference on noon with Richard Branson announcing his latest Virgin venture. At 4pm in the lobby of the tent Courtney Cox will unveil make-up company Kinerase’s latest line.

During the day we will be milling around the tent schmoozing and seeing who’s wearing what. Sometimes the best fashion is not on the runway but on the walk getting there. Tonight at 8pm we have a show with 30 designers displaying their wares south of the tent on 18th street with an afterparty sure to follow. We will be at the shows beaming back pictures and comments all day.

Fashion is haunted by trends of seasons past. Normally you’ll find yourself wincing at old photos from an earlier decade when shoulder pads were in. Bell bottoms are now the thing as illustrated by our retro article this month.... [Go]
