An Ugg Dilemma

So I have been lusting over Uggs since last winter, but I keep holding off on buying them because everyone is always saying that they are “out.” But I see them all over New York and DC and everywhere else, and they are not being worn by fashion outcasts but by very hip people. Today I was in Nordstroms (in Tampa, I’m “home” for Thanksgiving) and decided that I would just try a pair of their Sunsets on, just to see. Well, they were out of every single size except the display, which were a size 5… and this is Florida! Where Uggs aren’t even neccessary!

So I’ve decided to order a pair on Zappos, but am met with a new dilemma: the Sunsets or the Uptowns? The Sunsets are a great reinterpretation of the classic Ugg boot, but the Uptowns really give the boots some trendy flair - and Oprah (goddess of all things acceptable) has named the Uptowns on her list of favorite things for the holidays AND they are sold out at Zappos.

The difference in price is about $40 (Sunsets are $140, Uptowns $180) and if I am spending this much on boots, I want to wear them next year (I figure by now its clear that Uggs are not leaving the scene anytime soon). Should I go for the more classic Sunsets? Will the Uptowns still be stylish in a season or two?

Usually a dispenser of fashion advice, I’m now asking for some: What do you think???

get the classics. They are the best

I think that you should decide what you wear based on your own vision & conscience, not the opinions of others.

  3. Stevie Says:

I agree with Mungojelly, the uggs are timeless if you wear them that way.

  4. Victoria Says:

Personally, I would say neither. Even if “hip people” are still wearing them, Uggs aren`t attractive or classy, and they`re not fashionable.

Once you start depending on others perception on fashion you’re done. I personally think the uggs are ugly. Get them anyway, who cares what I think, I still think plaid is great with anything.

Which goes to show fashion is a matter of perspective.

I’ve got to say, every time I see someone wearing Uggs I wince and think to myself, “Ugh, those are terrible.”

who care if they are ugly, as long as they are comfortable and keep my feet warm, I dont care what others think what Im wearing. Thanks to those who came up with this idea making so good shoes for a climate like where I am, Norway, it’s f….cold and these shoes are really my best friend every day to work, running to catch the bus in minus 10 degrees :) these are so comfortable that it feels like not wearing any shoes at all.

I personally would say buy the Uptowns because you can see that no one actually owns them. and if they’re sold out on zappos then people are buying them and soon the’ll be in style!
