This may be construed as shilling, but trust me I am no shill. I just read Rachel Opalsky’s guest editorial on the merits of wearing fur and the problems it causes with PETA.

I really believe that in many instances, PETA has legitimate reasons for the fashion fur protests. As an environmentally aware fashion lover, I understand that there is a balance between wearing something you love and the affect it has on the environment around you. They toss out the photos of cute minks (detailed here), the foxes, the bunny rabbits and all the other loveable animals in gruesome before and after montages.
I understand Opalsky’s point about it being a challenge for the concious fashion-concious. In my opinion though, there is no crises of concious. Killing animals for their fur just to sell a so-many- thousand dollar coat just feels wrong. Faux fur may be a no-no in high end fashion circles, but it’s good for the soul.
Once again… I slowly step away from the soap box.
