Last Minute Gift Ideas

Waited until the very last minute to go shopping and still don’t know what to get [insert name here]? We’ve got suggestions… but if you need them under the tree by tomorrow morning, you’ll have to go to the mall to get them on time.

For Her

  • Sex and the City DVD (Seasons 2 and 3 if the whole set is out of your price range): this is a sure bet for any young woman—chances are you will end up watchng several episode on Christmas day (just make sure grandma isn’t within earshot).
  • Fragrance or Bath Set: Women love things that pamper them and smell good. Bath and Body Works has a range of inexpensive to moderate sets for bathing indulgences; Sephora and department stores will carry fragrance gift sets as well as more upscale bath sets.
  • Magazine Subscription: Order the susbscription online and then buy them a copy of the latest issue and wrap it up with a subscription card filled in with the recipient’s name. Elle, Vogue and W are all outstanding publications.
  • Take something practical, like a scarf, work tote, belt, gym clothes, etc and get her something one notch up in quality than she would buy herself.
  • Jewelry: Try your best to make it match her personal style and something that would coordinate with an outfit she already has.
  • For Him

  • iPod accessories: You have probably heard him say he wants something – go into an Apple store or electronic retailer and ask what they have. More likely than not they will show you something that you will say, “That fits perfectly”
  • Wallet: So many men have worn-out wallets. Get them one that will last
  • Denim: Because his ass looks so hot in jeans that hug it. And his have a hole in the crotch, that while no ones see it, you still know it is there
  • Lingerie: you might be the one who wears it, but he will love unwrapping it (and you later)
  • Bathrobe: Because men truly embody their masculinity when wearing a luxurious, fluffy bathrobe
  • Parents and In-Laws

At some point, parents often stop treating themselves luxuriously. Why not get them something indulgent, something that acknowledges, “I know that raising me was a lot of work. Why don’t you take time to relax now that I’m grown?”

  • luxurious sheets/down comforter: for all their naps and staying snug at night
  • Books in large print: stimulates the mind, easy on the eyes
  • Something for their hobbies: mom is trying yoga, dad is into gourmet cooking? Get them the accessories they need to make their pastimes even more enjoyable

Virgin Mobile seizes on Kate Moss’ Desperation for a New “Contract”

Virgin Mobile is willing to turn anything into a publicity-whorefest (remember Richard Branson’s The Rebel Billionaire?) and so naturally they have produced a commercial that will garner them buckets of publicity by poking good-humored fun at Kate Moss’ downward career spiral and comeback. You can watch the commercial for yourself: the gist of the commercial is that an agent calls Kate and tells her that he has a huge contract for her (Moss lost many of her lucrative contracts when she checked into rehab for a cocaine addiction, in case you have been living in Kuala Lumpur for the past several months and didn’t know this), and the twist at the end is that it is not a huge new modeling contract but rather a Virgin Mobile contract for cell phone service. And the tagline (a punch line for Moss) is: “A Contract Worth Keeping.”

    Advertising genius.

Sadly the commercial is playing in the UK, and so on the other side of the big pond we are stuck with their Happy ChristmaHanuKwanzaKa! commercials.

    Stephanie Nolasco

At the age of fourteen, Lacy Barry was given a religious premonition of her future with fashion.
