My fashion New Year’s Resolution is to always keep in mind that fashion is not primarily about consumerism.
Rather, at its core, fashion is about art: design, color and composition. It’s a practical application of art, merging the aesthetic with a basic human impulse: to clothe oneself.
If I keep this in mind, then I will be able to appreciate gorgeous clothing for simply existing, and not feel the need to hoard it all in my own closet.
This dress from Michael Kors’ Spring/Summer ‘06 Runway Collection is the perfect reminder, because there is no way I could afford it, but I love just being able to see it in a photograph.
