Vintageista — Devil Wears Prada…the movie??

I know I write about everything vintage fashion, but I couldn’t resist telling everyone what I just found out. I feel like a schoolgirl about to tell a huge secret, but also being the last to know about the secret.

I’m sure there are some unsuspecting Papierdollers out there that would appreciate such information. I was doing my nightly internet browsing and found out that the Devil Wears Prada ( you know the hilarious book by Lauren Weisberger — Anna Wintour’s assistant from 1999-2000) is being made into a movie. David Frankel will be directing and they have cast Anne Hathaway (Princess Diaries 1 & 2) to play Andrea and Meryl Streep to play the notorious Miranda Priestly.

Uhhh???

Yea, my sentiments exactly, but whatever works. However, Patricia Field of “Sex in the City” fame is the wardrobe stylist, so you know the wardrobe is going to be FIERCE!!!!!! Anyway, release date is set for June 30, 2006.

One of the Highlights of Match Point

Match Point was such an intense movie. I left the theater feeling tense and needing about an hour of yoga to unwind, of course I instead opted for hot chocolate, which has more or less the same affect. It is brilliantly acted and despite some very contrived business-related conversation, well written and thoughtful. But that is not why I am posting on it…

While watching the movie, I could not take my eyes off Scarlett Johansen’s handbag, a brown, distressed leather editor bag (I wish I had a better picture) that worked so well with her different outfits and seems like the perfect all-around daytime handbag.

I found a bag that is similar in style, the Junior Editor from Roots, however the stiching makes it a bit more formal, and ScarJo’s bag’s distressed leather makes it much more slouchy, which is the handbag feature to have right now. Little details can make a lot of difference, in this case I would probably pass on the imitation and wait for something closer to the real thing.

    The Spare use of Make-up

Make-up should always be applied sparingling (not liberally). The only people that should use make-up close to heavily are those in front of a camera. Make-up (like anything else you put on your face) should not be harmful to your skin. The problem is that a majority of products out there indeed do more to hurt than help.

It’s the combination of dyes, oils and in some cases alcohol that can really do a number on you in the long run. So here are a couple of tips when wearing make-up:

    1. Make sure the make-up has some sort of skin-aiding ingredient. If you are going to wear it, it might as well help your appearance and rejuevnate your skin. An example is LORAC cosmestic’s line of make-up. (No I am not shilling, I’ve actually tried it) below is their LORAC Croc Palette one of several exclusive items at Sephora.com

    2. Wear make-up that matches your skin tone. Unless you are going for a certain “look”, make-up that matches your skin tone is always flattering. It should blend into your skin and not expose blemishes. One of the best ways to blend is to use the commonly accessible blending wedge for foundations, or blending brush.

    3. USE SPARINGLY. The thinking here is along the lines of perfume. If you use it sparingly, the attention you get will be appreciative rather than offensive. Ever step on a vacant elevator that smells like the 1st floor of Macy’s? The prior occupant didn’t know when to quit when it came to the use of perfume. The same is true for make-up. If you cake it on, you risk looking like a clown. Keep it to a minimum and your skin will thank you for it.

    Papierdoll July 2008 Interview

    Interview: Thomas Voorn
    Sonia Pereira Murphy

Considering the now ubiquitous trend of disposable fashion where all that seems to matter is a cute factor, Thomas Voorn's intellectual take on clothing is not only refreshing, but enlightening. Voorn's fascination with clothing calls to mind an anthropologist intrigued with skeletal remains, a sociologist... [Go]
