NYC Fall Fashion Week: Stargazing at Michael Kors
As a separate post from the actual Michael Kors show post (since that deserves undivided attention), I thought I would provide some dish on the front-row celebrities that I observed before and during the show.

First to arrive was LeAnn Rimes in a cream-colored crochet dress, in which she still managed to look a bit country bumpkin. She sat at the very end of the runway, and seemed lonely for several minutes when no one was taking her picture, but lit up when the press swarmed around her (until, of course, the bigger celebs arrived).

Next to come in was Hilary Duff, well-coordinated with a white headband, scarf and pea coat. Hilary looked much more elegant and womanly than she does on camera, where she has always looked so cartoonish to me. She sat through the show with a serious face, obviously trying to prove herself.
Nicole Richie did not look as sickly thin as I expected in a black crewneck top and crinkled velvet skirt, but I have been looking at runway models all week, so my idea of sickly thin was probably distorted. Nicole’s hair was scalloped into a perfect coif, making her look more mature and serious than her former persona. She also had a poker face during the show, but flanked with Heidi Klum on one side and Rachel Zoe Rosenzweig on the other, the pressure to seem serious about fashion must have been immense.

Heidi Klum wore a black sleeveless dress with a keyhole opening at the bust, and held herself with the elegance characteristic of a former supermodel. As the models walked down the runway, Heidi looked exactly as she does when evaluating the designs on Project Runway: a serious face with a certain “Hmmm†expression on it.
The most arresting celebrity for stargazing, however, was Debra Messing, who couldn’t hide her genuine excitement.

She was so effusive during the show that at one point I could read her lips (from over 50 feet away) as she said, “Wow, I love that!†She held her husband’s hand throughout the show, and it was refreshing to see a celebrity comfortable enough with herself to be sincere.
And then there was the meeting of two disproportionately enormous heads…
