Drag Queens, prostitutes, transexuals and that was just the lobby! Everyone, and I mean everyone, tried to get into the sassiest show during fashion week- Heatherette! Richie Rich and Traver Rains out-did themselves with this AMAZING collection which was an “Ode to New York”.

The collection was shown on a runway of piano keys (think Tom Hanks in Big), back flipping models and ballerinas introduced a collection that was inspired by everything from the trashiest street to the top of the Chrysler Building. Full skirts and dresses kept up with the young, playful silhouettes we are used to from this dynamic duo. Other inspirations were suits made for Broadway dreams, shirts with graffiti themes and one major feather number worn by none other but the queen for the Queens- Naomi.

The Heatherette Muse and NY “it” girl Amanda Lepore sent out a message to anyone who has ever come to this town with an idea, dream, or just because: Dreams do come true in New York City.

My favs:
The NY Skyline gown Empire in the middle, Chryslers on both sides, Full skirt, high waisted can-can dress.

Highpoint:
Meeting and having a wonderful convo with Jay McCarroll winner of Project Runway, proving there are still real humans roaming NY.

Have you rsvpd for our party yet?

NYC Fall Fashion Week: Sebastian Evokativ

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006 | Everything, Fashion Week Coverage | No Comments

This product launch for Sebastian’s new hair care line, Evokativ, was not so much a runway show as a three Act performance, in which professional dancers opened each Act with a ballet, jazz and tango, each followed by a progression of runway models with hair styled to evoke a specific theme: intimate, alluring and provocative. The concept was to parallel the fluidity of the dancers with the movement and texture of hair that is styled to flow and retain its style without being stiff. The show was beautifully executed and captivating to watch, and the goody bag of over $100 worth of hair products is sure to win over the stylists and press in attendance.

NYC Fall Fashion Week: Bill Blass

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006 | Fashion Week Coverage | No Comments

Turtlenecks and designer eyeglasses—while these trademarks of intellectual sophistication were not present on the runway, they dominated the style of the literati in attendance for the Bill Blass show. It was the crowd you would expect for Blass: sharply dressed middle-aged men and women who probably spent their twenties frequenting coffee houses.

The show’s concept focused on the no-nonsense, on-the-go career woman – the models walked briskly down the runway and did not pose at the end of the runway to be photographed but made a quick u-turn as though they couldn’t be bothered to pause (they did not even look at the cameras as they turned). Daria and Gemma opened the show with walks that floated along the runway– conveying that while they were fast-paced, they were not frazzled nor hurried. The designs captured this concept of a woman who is serious and focused, but in a cool, calm-and-collected way.

The collection consisted of outfits that were, for the most part, multiple shades of one color, but wide belts that cinched the waists of suits, coats and dresses saved these one-tone designs from being visually boring.

Blass also presented several coats that were styled to look more like dresses than outerwear (something we saw earlier this week at Twinkle) by the use of heavy brocade and embroidery as well as fur hoods.

While the designs were generally conservative, they retained a sharp, modern style that caters to the Bill Blass audience.

NYC Fall Fashion Week: Urban Menswear Shows

Sean John

While the bare-chested, muscle-laden men were a welcome departure from the endless parade of stick-thin, waify female models, the Sean John line remained true to its straightforward, street-inspired urban look. No surprises here, not even an appearance from the Diddy himself.

academiks

An urban menswear line that featured an array of urban casual looks, from workshirts to t-shirt to dress shirts with loose ties, always paired with work boots. Brown and mandarin orange dominated the line.

NYC Fall Fashion Week: Jedda Kahn

The only term to describe this line is “ghetto fabulous.” Everything was over the top—shiny fabrics in metallic golds, sequins, sparkles, hats with feathers—but it was also executed with style and even class.

The construction was flawless and intricate, while the fabrics connoted the flashy, gaudiness of the déclassé, the garments themselves were precisely constructed and looked expensive. While the two worlds sometimes clashed in Kahn’s creations, the concept was implemented with an overall brilliance that embraced the creations for what they were, which was simply fabulous.
