Eye makeover at Chanel

Browsing around the local Chanel Counter, I was intrigued by the purples in their spring preview. Purple is a difficult eye color - what is meant to be sophisticated can turn clownish at the flick of a brush.
Starting with the Professional Eye Shadow Base in lilac, Melinda, sales assistant extraordinaire, brushed the shimmery liquid shadow from lash line almost to the browbone. It had a nice consistency and the brush made it easy to apply, with a little finger blending the base alone alone made for a pretty, pearly look.
But, it was the Silky Eyeshadow Duo in star dust that I had my eye on. Malinda applied the lighter, more shimmery shade on the inside third of my lid. Then, the darker shade went on in an inverted V, with the point centering on my crease. The look was definitely glam and non-clowny. For an evening look I think this would be great.
The base also really helped the shadow to stay put on my bare lids. I usually have a laborious eye shadow base process I go through before attempting the actual eye color, but even with out it this stuck. The base seemed to really adhere to my skin and the shadow clung to it well. The products were also very light-feeling, and my contacts weren’t bothered at all.
A+ for the big C.

Anyone but her

Love Vivienne Westwood. Absolutely adore. So when I heard they were making a biopic that chronicles her life, I said to myself “self, let the actress that plays Westwood be anyone, anyone at all, except Lindsay Lohan.”

America’s Next Top Catty Bitch
Last night’s America’s Next Top Model was all about runway strutting, which gave us plenty of spills and awkward moments to laugh at (the ridiculous contestants obviously have never seen models walk before), and a pretty inventive photoshoot.
But did anyone else get the feeling that the entire show and all of its challenges were contrived just for the moment when Tyra reminds us that Naomi Campbell fell on her ass during a Vivienne Westwood runway show (which happened in 1993)? Tyra seemed so smug holding up the picture of Naomi (who was not mentioned by name), and we know Tyra and Naomi are long-time rivals. Also, Tyra didn’t use Naomi’s graceful smile to illustrate her lesson about recovering from a fall with dignity - further demonstrating her backhanded intentions.
Naomi opened and closed several high-profile runway shows at NYC fashion week last month. Tyra wasn’t even in the audience, and her Top Modelettes were seen in the tents, but definitely not on the runway.
Just because you have a second-rate reality TV show on UPN doesn’t mean you should use it to take jabs at someone who clearly makes you insecure. I’m not one for defending people who attack their assistants, but last night proved Tyra isn’t above acting like a catty bitch either.
