Conversations We Used to Have in Department Stores, We Now Have Over Email

This is what happens when you eat lunch at your desk.

I’m sharing this email exchange because it shows the process we all go through when shopping, and how good it is to have a buddy to provide their honest opinion…

I really like this jacket, but its corduroy… how do we feel about cord? Ive always taken a snobbish approach that its like a poor mans velvet

No- we like cord, as long as it is quality, heavy weight cord. The cheap kind that like old navy or gap does- that stuff sucks. J. Crew makes some really nice heavy-weight cord stuff.

I think the jacket is cute- it’s a nice twist on the usual cord jacket. Who makes it, though? Hopefully someone a little more upscale, otherwise it could be cheapo fabric.

Esprit… but part of their EDC dept (like Zara’s TRF)… there is free shipping and free returns, so I guess I could order and see… thing is I want to shop for spring clothes, but it would be wise to get some fall stuff on sale… but what if fall comes around and ive moved onto something else?

Yeah- that’s always the problem. I always ask myself this: Do you LOVE this jacket? Does it fit your style? Would it mix well with your wardrobe? If you’re hesitant on any of these, then don’t get it. Fall will come around and you’ll see something you’re more excited about and love even more, and then you’ll have a jacket that you kind of liked once but you should probably sell on eBay now. I think it’s cute yes, but it is a little bit trendy with the military-esque style and belted waist, so I would think about it…

Yeah, I actually got this anthro dress along with the skirt I love and think I’ll return it because “I’m like, its okay, and it was velvet (brand) on sale, and its cute if I wear it with a belt,” but I don’t know, would I have bought it in the store? Am I just holding onto it because I paid $13 in shipping (would’ve paid $12 for the skirt anyway)… I do really like the jacket, I remember I was going to buy it at full price because I thought it was velvet at first… I love the style and belted look, and know it will be in style for next fall because military and belts were all over fashion week… hmmm…. Maybe I should just order it and I can get it home, try it and see, if I return that dress to anthro it will be like canceling each other out…

the white makeup around her [person who passed by our desks] face… kinda weird, but also brightens it (I always think my face looks sallow and dark)

Benefit makes some stuff that does that- I think it’s the ooh la lift pencil, but it gives that brightening effect. You could try it, but I don’t think your face looks sallow and dark.

The lighting in the bathroom is atrocious indeed. =0

Seriously, I have conversations like this all the time with my friends. It’s just plain scary.

Flourescent lighting is the worst. How do you prepare for it? It’s not like you want it in your HOME! And also, my cubicle casts a weird shadow so I have to roll a few feet back from my desk to properly check my makeup in a hand mirror, which just looks plain silly.

Loved the convo, though, we all have them!
