Scrub

It’s official. I’m wearing a skirt without pantyhose and breaking out my open-toed shoes.

If you’re planning to do the same, LaLicious has some products that can get your legs (and whatever else) smooth and moisturized.

These products claim lots of multiple uses. Some of them are obvious - body oil ($20) as massage oil - but some of them are a little more innovative. Like using the scrub ($32) as a shaving lotion (after washing off the sugary stuff first, of course.)

As my shower gel ran out last night, I had occasion to test this theory and it worked out really well!

First of all, these products smell so delicious. I tried the coconut scent, but they also come in island guava, brown sugar vanilla, coffee bean, lily mango, passionfruit lime, gardenia and peppermint. The label says “no tasting, please” and it’s really sage advice, because you really want to pop some in your mouth. Especially the body butter ($22), because it has the awesome, whipped consistency of marshmallow fluff.

I really like the texture of the scrub - using sugar instead of salt to be less scratchy. It also desolves in a satisfying way on your skin as you scrub. It does leave slick, water-beads-on-your-skin moisturizer behind, so if you don’t like the feeling of body-oil this might not be for you. (The oil components can also make tubs slippery, so beware!)

After the sugar had disolved, I went ahead with my trusty disposable razor and it worked really well. I didn’t cut myself once, and I usually at least knick my knee. So a+ on the shavability.

butter

After showering, I went on to use the body butter, even though the scrub is very moisturizing. While the body butter doesn’t absorb as well on dry, stubbly legs, after shaving and still moist from the shower/scrub, it went on like a dream. I smelled great and was fully moisturized for my first leg-baring day.

I would say the scrub can work as a scrub, shave lotion AND body oil (which they also offer, along with $16 body wash ). I love anything that works overtime so that I don’t have to.

And, uh, did I mention how great they smell?

Sonia Pereira Murphy

Considering the now ubiquitous trend of disposable fashion where all that seems to matter is a cute factor, Thomas Voorn's intellectual take on clothing is not only refreshing, but enlightening. Voorn's fascination with clothing calls to mind an anthropologist intrigued with skeletal remains, a sociologist... [Go]
