“If we ever drop E, just put me in a room full of leather handbags.”

Two Ways to Give Yourself Chronic Back Problems

Goldenbleu’s Jordan bag screams of the ridiculousness that is the oversized bag trend—when you could theoretically stuff your entire torso into a bag, it is probably going to rack up enough chiropractor and masseur bills to pay for itself three times over (because no woman can resist putting as much junk inside a bag as it can hold).

Wonder why this is called the “Jordan” bag? Perhaps named after a certain celebrity with absurdly prodigious bags of her own?

    Don’t Speak too Soon…

Yesterday I said that while I have leopard print sheets, I won’t wear leopard print clothing. And then this morning, while browsing the new arrivals to Shopbop’s spring sale, I fell in love with the thumbnail image of L.A.M.B’s Tassel Gown, and when I clicked through to the page with the full-size image: leopard print. Much more subtle that the Nanette Lepore, but undeniably leopard print (with other animal textures).

    And I love it.

Even on sale, $368 is about a third more than my price ceiling for a summer dress, and I would be dramatically overdressed if I wore it to my office (my existing requirement for a splurge dress purchase). But wow… how gorgeous…I wish I could borrow it for one fabulous day in which I would make up activities for the sole purpose of wearing it.

Don’t Force it, Just Let it Happen

No, this is not a post on losing your virginity.

The last week or so I have been determined to buy a new summer dress, as a gift to myself for a recent personal accomplishment. I’ve been to all the usual haunts: Anthropologie, BCBG Max Azria, Zara, and some upscale boutiques that I normally only go to solely for browsing/research purposes (but this is a splurge, and I’m willing to spend). Of course, I am always gushing over the clothing in these stores, but as soon as I decide I am looking for something particular (well, I sort of have an idea of what I want–a shirtdress or something else that I can wear to work, okay, I guess that makes it a “practical splurge”), nothing really captures my attention.

Right concept, but too plain… and I try not to wear white. It needs to at least be ivory.

Too wild. I love Nanette Lepore, and I have leopard bedsheets, but I don’t think combining the two is neccesarily such a good idea (and I don’t wear leopard, I sleep on it).

In love with it and might even splurge for it, but definitely cannot wear it to work.

And I know I posted this yesterday, but…

Tried it on at a boutique in a size too big (they didn’t have my size, and a salesgirl insisted I try it because since it is a wrap dress, I could just wrap it tighter–um, no). And too expensive, though if it goes on sale, it’s mine.

Perhaps I become more picky when I am in “buy not browse” mode, but as I think of some of my favorite purchases, the items that I cherish for years and don’t get bored with after a single season, they are pieces that I was not neccesarily looking for, but just happened upon. So I’ll save my money, and wait until I stumble upon IT.
