Archive for July, 2006

Tomorrow a legend returns. Louis Vuitton’s lockit bag from 1958 is resurrected in modern form. The date? August 1st, 2006. Though I would be on line waiting for it, my wallet says wait till payday on Friday for the bag. That’s when I will blow most of the paycheck and live on bread and water for the next two weeks.

The cure for that aching heel

Saw a commercial yesterday that really peaked my interest. I love heels. I love the way they look. I love how it makes someone like me who is 5′2″ look like I am 5′6″ (every inch helps). I just hate the excrutiating pain I am in after hour three of walking in them. So when this Dr. Scholls commercial showing their Dr. Scholls for her came on, I ran to the drug store and picked up a pair of insoles. The insoles in that line is supposed to make walking in heels feel natural and less painful. I tried it out and can definitely say they are worth a look. While there is still some pain, it is lessened dramatically with this product. The arches and the ball joint doesn’t feel as much stress and so walking is more natural. The gel definitely helps. I think the only problem is the clearance level for your toes. Sometimes I get a slight pinch if the shoe is too narrow. This works very well with rounded toe heels. Hopefully they have a version for pointy toed heels.

You’re such a heel

I’m thoroughly convinced that this fall’s looks are concentrating on the plain and unflashy. Unlike last fall where Marc Jacobs had the world up in arms with his dark collection, this year is looking a little more like an exercise in not getting noticed in a crowd. Take note of these distressed mary janes by Marc Jacobs. While they are definitely likable, they lack the flash from last year. What do you think?

The Papierdoll Tee is back
You have to understand. Our logo is so effing cool we decided like any young enterprise to sell out immediately and put our name on shirts. There’s nothing like walking down the street and having someone ask “what’s that say?” You say it’s French and keep it moving.

Papierblog Weekend Planner 7/28 - 7/31
The weekend planner is getting to become a favorite. Wrote one reader: “I can’t believe the deals that I got from going to the Brooklyn Design Collective, you guys rock.” No I did not make that up, someone actually wrote that… Ok she didn’t say we rocked, but I had to add an extra umpphh for effect. What am I doing this weekend? The question should be what are WE doing this weekend:
Must See

In London this weekend? Then you should check out V&A’s Out of London, Paris and New York 1965-1968 exhibit. Sure they have other exhibits but what better way to know about your fashion future than by learning about your fashion past?

Must Read: A.L.T. 365+

Andre Leon Talley’s memoir is what you want to read when you have Devil Wears Prada exhaustion. According to Papierdoll editor Lisa Radon’s review it’s “part memoir, part scrapbook, part composite picture of his world.” Definitely a great read over the weekend. Read Lisa’s full review here.

Must Buy: Victoria Skirt

Kathy Mallone’s Fofolle online store has the best selection of skirts I’ve seen in a long time. Original one-of-a-kind pieces make her skirts all that more valuable. My favorite is this Victoria Skirt. Although it’s sold out, it may be making a comeback soon if you ask her nicely. Fret not though, there are plenty of the skirts and dresses available at her store. Another incentive to buy from her store? From now until August 15th, you will receive a 15% discount off your complete order at Fofolle if you mention/use code Papierdoll.
Enjoy your weekend!
