Archive for August, 2006

Ask me why I don’t need to do cardio this week…ask me. This weeekend browsing the net for looks one can only find in Thrift Village and the like, I found fashiondig.com. I thought my heart would expolde (along with my Amex) it was beating so fast. Dig, only a play on words, is not representative of the site’s layout. In order by year and designer you could browse, pinpoint a decade or item and you’ll be quick to find it. Voted Best Of Web by Forbes, you’ll soon understand why. Bakelite earrings, Pucci and Gucci at appropriate prices. You’ll get so spoiled you will only venture to thrift for that ambient smell.

Fall Jewelry from Claudette Elizondo

Besides the fact that I love the music on Claudette Elizondo’s website, I’m very happy that she’s offering Papierdoll/Thriftychick readers a discount of 20% off your entire order when you use code Thriftychick. She’s Ali’s pick on Thriftychick this morning. My pick? The ring above.

Barneys Warehouse sale story

Last year I went to a Barneys Warehouse sale because of an ad on TV. I ‘ve seen the ads running long enough so I figured why not go? Purchased these boots from Marc Jacobs and had the whole “buyers remorse” thing as I had to try to figure out how I was going to pay the rent post purchase. Then I realized the boots weren’t that expensive (it was a warehouse sale for petes sake), besides I was still relying on parents from time to time (more times than not). Long story short, this year, though extremely hard, I will be watching what I buy at this sale as they’ve taken a somewhat firm stance on funding this adventure I call living in New York.

Papierblog Weekend Planner 8/25 - 8/27
The weekend planner is over, after this weekend summer’s basically done and weekends don’t exist after summer do they? It’s just Monday through Friday with a start back to Monday again. So here’s what i’m looking to do this weekend while away:
Must See: The Emmy Awards pre-show.

See it’s true that the fabulous gowns and menswear is Oscar’s domain only, but the Emmy’s hold their own when it comes to dressing up. Who knows what the stars of the tube, lcd and plasma will be wearing. I’ll be there and hopefully some photographer will send us photos (Sam get on your job!)
Must do: Prada Sample Sale

Oh you didn’t know? Well if you’ve been living under a rock the appoinment only affair ENDS today. So head over to the sample sale website, try to make an appointment and shop like the end of the world is near…or something.

If you miss this sample sale, there are plenty left for the weekend visit Thriftychick for a complete listing.
Must Buy: Trench Coat from Style Violet

So some variation of the military thing is la mode’ for fall. I say go for a trench coat that is inspiration for the look. When you do it go to Styleviolet, they will give you a discount of 15% off of your order when you use code Papierdoll.
Must Read: Style by Kate Spade

Want to know everything about the Kate Spade empire from bags to shoes and everything in-between. This book is your answer. Senior Editor Lisa Radon reviewed it last year in Papierdoll and it still maintains its appeal. A great weekender for you.

She really needs to eat something
Every now and again, even Eva makes a mistake. (here’s a repost with the correct images of the oh-so fabulous Chelsea and Twiggy jeans from Joes Jeans.)

Got this from Joes yesterday and while the whole skinny thing is lovely (taking into account that you are skinny), Nicole really needs to have a burger. I will be running to the gym before I fit into these jeans. But I will fit damn it.Nicole is wearing the Chelsea. (pictured above and to the right.)

And their Twiggy jeans are effing real. (pictured directly above)

Papierdoll July 2008 Interview
Interview: Thomas Voorn
Sonia Pereira Murphy
Considering the now ubiquitous trend of disposable fashion where all that seems to matter is a cute factor, Thomas Voorn's intellectual take on clothing is not only refreshing, but enlightening. Voorn's fascination with clothing calls to mind an anthropologist intrigued with skeletal remains, a sociologist... [Go]
