The Rosa Cha show had the best scenery and most energy of any of the shows I have attended so far this fashion week. The opening to the runway was set as if we were at a show at a Brazilian Carnival. The crowd, which included JC Chavez, Ivana Trump, and Russell Simmons, all found themselves dancing in their seats as the music started. And the air smelled of roses. The collection was 95% swimwear and was inspired by French incursions into colonial Brazil. The swimsuits were decorative and for the most part wearable. There were pieces with Victorian styling and a variety of corseted pieces. Each one had its own personality making this show not your run-of-the-mill swimsuit show. Intricate beading, embroidery, belting, and chains, were used heavily as were a few body stockings almost mimicking body tattoos (reminiscent of the henna craze of the late 90’s). The suits that used suspenders as straps were fun and unique. The few dresses and tunics shown inspired you to call your travel agent immediately. Overall the designs made you embrace the gym membership for which you pay so much for every month; even more amusing was that in our program packets there was a coupon for 25% off any laser hair removal or cellulite reduction therapy at a nationwide chain–you have to love the vanity of the industry.
