Top (or Bottom) 10 in Fashion of 2006

With so many lists floating around. I had to come up with my own moments in fashion of 2006. This is completely random and arbitrary based on musings of the entire year. Enjoy and comment if so inclined.

1. Best way to win over the press
Dolce & Gabbana
Ban them from your show. As witnessed (or not) by Vogue’s and The New York Times’ writers at Dolce and Gabbana’s Spring 2006 show.

2. Biggest intentional fashion faux pas.
Britney Spears
Britney flashing her vag to the press while getting out of a car. I don’t think anything can top the level of crass this reaches.

3. Breakout blog of 2006
The Sartorialist. If you’ve never heard of him, climb out from under your rock. He’s proven that walking down the street with a camera, while having intelligent discourse on fashion will win every. single. time.

4. Best dressed politican of 2006
Barack Obama. The casual not-quite-presidential-candidate-yet is setting the stage by wearing the suit sans tie and looking very good doing so.

5. Questionably boldest move of 2006
Anna Wintour

Julie Fredrickson of the Almost Girl blog slash Coutorture slash Anna Wintour fashion week fame had an impromptu interview with the headmistress. She lost a portion of her network as a result while being featured in almost every. single. fashion. publication. One to watch in 07.

6. Biggest lost to fashion 2006
Oleg Cassini - When you’re designing dresses for Jackie Kennedy there’s nothing left to say. The death of this icon of fashion is definitely a great lost.

7. Best collection of 2006
Rochas
Rochas, just way too bad that the fashion house was shut down shortly thereafter. No need to fret, Olivier Theyskens is still around and Nina Ricci is the ultimate winner.

8. Overrated collection of 2006
Marc Jacobs
The layered fall collection of Marc Jacobs. I apologize in advance and look forward to being shut down and having Papierblog shutdown by the fashion world at large in the new year.

9. Best fashion ad of 2006
Alexander McQueen
That Nick Knight shot / Alexander McQueen Puma ad. While not exactly fashion in the strictest sense, it’s just beautiful.

10. Breakout story of 2006
There were many, but for selfish reasons I will say that the emergence of the fashion blog as the story of the year. For a long time the fashion press has been dominated by writers that were far removed from the person on the street. Blogs brought the human element to fashion simply by talking at eye level to the readers.

Not to be left out [updated]

French Vogue
I’m sitting right now watching this Bacardi Mojito commercial and there are way too many flailing asses and bad outfits.

Ok let me get to the point:

Paris Vogue had a great list of blogs de mode…no we didn’t make it -feeling like Kanye West right now- I digress. The list did have some blogs that we read, every. single. day. But I felt like they missed some really good ones.

Mind you. I am not hating.

So I put together my own list of fashion blogs that must have slipped the minds of the Paris Vogue editors.

Mind you. I am not hating.

Blogs that Rock and were not on the Paris Vogue list

**updated
Omiru [I forgot to include Trisha's blog in the original list, but Omiru rocks]
Zoozoom Blog [got to love the photos]
Fashiontribes [Lesley never stops updating]
Fashion Addict Diary [She "gets" it]
The Coherent [Methodical]
Foto Decadent [I can't stop clicking]
I Am Fashion [Still VERY relevant]

Am I missing any? Leave yours in our comments section.

Designers need stylists too

Jenny Packham

You know you’re going to have a great show when Patricia Fields (of Sex and the City fame)signs on to do your Milan fashion show. My question is why does Packham show in Milan, but not London, they sure could use the help.

Mod is back in a major way. One only need look at the success of a designer like Anya Teresse of Kate and Kass to see that mod is here to stay.
