New York Fall Fashion Week 2007: Venexiana

Who did Kati Stern have in mind when creating her line for Venexiana? A devious daddy’s girl, whose flirtation with rebellion is underhanded rather than outright—she knows how to be sweet while letting her naughty side peek out just enough to peak interest. Stern’s strength is her use of color and prints in unexpectedly fresh ways, and for her fall 2007 collection she took rather dowdy-looking paisleys and plaids of brown hues and crafted them into lightheartedly playful velvet trimmed dresses and ruffled blouses. In the evening, however, daddy’s girl cannot resist the temptation to command attention. Kati responded with voluminous furs and sparkling sequined dresses—perhaps revealing her own weakness in resisting the youthful urge to gravitate towards flash rather than sensual restraint—of course, this just so happens to be an affinity she shares with her consumer.
