This season Twinkle by Wenlan’s collection said “Fall”. Great frocks, silk gowns, and knits were done in a variety of this fall’s color palette. As with the last fall collection the chunky scarves made you want to cuddle up especially with the weather we had this weekend.

This may be the definitive collection of Fall fashion week in New York.

New York Fall Fashion Week 2007: Venexiana

Who did Kati Stern have in mind when creating her line for Venexiana? A devious daddy’s girl, whose flirtation with rebellion is underhanded rather than outright—she knows how to be sweet while letting her naughty side peek out just enough to peak interest. Stern’s strength is her use of color and prints in unexpectedly fresh ways, and for her fall 2007 collection she took rather dowdy-looking paisleys and plaids of brown hues and crafted them into lightheartedly playful velvet trimmed dresses and ruffled blouses. In the evening, however, daddy’s girl cannot resist the temptation to command attention. Kati responded with voluminous furs and sparkling sequined dresses—perhaps revealing her own weakness in resisting the youthful urge to gravitate towards flash rather than sensual restraint—of course, this just so happens to be an affinity she shares with her consumer.

New York Fall Fashion Week 2007: Sass & Bide

Papierdoll review updated 2/6/2007

Metallic singlets adorned the first several pieces—jackets and vests—of Sass & Bide’s 2007 fall collection, setting the tone of relaxed glam. Although their “lovehawk season” line featured metallic sequins, embroidery and beading, it did so in the effortless Sass & Bide manner that pulled off all these elements without trying too hard (or even at all) to do so. While minidresses, high-waisted pants and fitted vests cannot be worn easily by anyone, Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke made it seem so.

New York Fall Fashion Week 2007: Alexandre Herchcovitch

Ladies and gentleman, Alexandre Herchovitch very well may be planning to assassinate the prime minister of Malaysia. At least, that is what his seemingly “derelicte”-inspired fall collection indicated. Perhaps Zoolander served as the inspiration of Herchcovitch’s own parodical statement about fashion’s obsession with voluminous forms: several tops, dresses and coats he sent down the runway were intentionally plasticized to look like garbage bags. While this tongue-and-cheek humor may have distracted from several prints and coats that made bold statements without the obvious satire, it wouldn’t be a Herchcovitch show otherwise.

Papierdoll July 2008 Interview

Interview: Thomas Voorn
Sonia Pereira Murphy

Considering the now ubiquitous trend of disposable fashion where all that seems to matter is a cute factor, Thomas Voorn's intellectual take on clothing is not only refreshing, but enlightening. Voorn's fascination with clothing calls to mind an anthropologist intrigued with skeletal remains, a sociologist... [Go]
