New York Fall Fashion Week 2007: Atil Kutoglu

Kutoglu opened the show with electric leather, a clear departure from the spring’s soft pastels. This not only signaled the versatilty Kutoglu would display for his Fall 2007 line, it also made a statement to those whose attention he had captured last season: you don’t have me figured out just yet.

Kutoglu once again applied his transformative invention onto a range of fabrics and textures: square-appliqués gave form to slender dresses, while waffled trousers and coats possessed depth without being weighed down.

And the gowns will flow. And they will be daring, in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. They will emulate grace. The will harken to a Hollywood of yesteryear. They will say femme fatale. They will say mistress. They will say the designer is Gustavo Arango and he knows the form of a woman.

The Abaete’ event was not only a show to preview her fall collection, but also to show off her next installment of her Payless collection as well. It was young, fresh, and ready for some sort of celebration. Vinyl coats and mod drssses welcomed and an updated version of what Holly Golightly might wear today; a 3/4 sleeved black form fitted dress with a zipper straight up the back. The flapper inspired dresses were satin and sequin accented with chockers and fur stoles.

**Papierdoll Review Added 2/5 12:00am

In the past few seasons I have been a little more excited about Alice Roi’s collections. This time not so much. Roi’s color palate was mainly plaid and black with winter whites sprinkled throughout. Always a favorite of mine, the mod mini dresses were interesting, but resembled those seen in most speciality stores over the past few months. The big winners to were her wool skirts and pants. The construction and design (one was tiered, another asymmetrical) of the skirts made for uniqueley classic pieces to be worn over through the years. The plaid trousers (which were done in nav) were a great to be paired with a fun and frilly top. A crowd favorite (and mine as well) was the dress with sleevless black top and doubled Scottich plaid skirting.
