It’s Just so Different

Manish AroraIndia fashion week is another one of those “outside of the big 4″ fashion weeks I meant to blog about the other day but am only getting to now. Looking at the photos coming out, it’s plain as day to see that there is a deep talent pool. We covered Manish Arora’s fashion show in London and he showed again in India; and is now set to show in Paris next season during the prêt-à -porte collections. The fashion world is taking notice of this talent, but I’d be remissed if I didn’t talk about some of the other collections that wowed in pictures. Some of the names that are worthy of dropping include the aforementioned Arora, Meera and Muzaffar Ali, Monisha Jaising, Raghavendra Rathore.

Some of the more interesting styling cues include silks done by hand, and an elaborate mix colors usually not reserved for the fall/winter season including bright reds, springlike yellows, whites (which we’ll be wearing after Labor day apparently); then there were the intricate appliques, beading and cashmere. What’s next for India? The second fashion week of the season for the country, Bombay of course.

The photo to the left is from Manish Arora’s India Fashion Week show.

We May Not Like SJP After This

Quotes are normally a sentence or two, but this paragraph really speaks for itself and had to be lifted en masse.

Interestingly, firms crave coverage of their products from the blogs, but then act like this. On a side note, something I particularly love about certain large & influential PR firms (who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty) is the hard-sell pitches they send to fashion bloggers, but then fail to give any of us a decent seat at one of their fashion shows, or even invite any of us to fancy product launches or events, limiting the invite list to dinosaur print editors only. -Lesley Scott

This is in regards to Sarah Jessica Parker’s line, Bitten, photos being posted on Kathryn Finney’s blog, The Budget Fashionista with comment and critique. She received a cease and desist letter from Steve and Barry’s attorney shortly thereafter. We posted the photos a couple of days ago and agree with the general assessment: these photos were leaked to the media and the proverbial cat was out of the proverbial bag. While copyright protection is of the utmost importance, these photos were on hundreds of sites by the time TBF posted them. In effect, publishing the photos to one, two or three approved sites opens a retailer/designer up to the press at large catching wind of and thus publishing photos of a line. It’s almost something you plan for. I’m just wondering if this is some sort of publicity stunt. Honestly.

J’aime Aubade

Several ad campaigns from yesteryear from Lux lingerie designer Aubade. I blog about them because I think that my closet consists of almost every piece they’ve ever sold…ok that’s hyperbole.

With Libertine for All

Libertine
I picked out two pieces from the complete Libertine for Target collection debuting this August that I could wrap my heart and mind around. Everything else is a hodge podge of Gap, Banana Republic, American Eagle, Aeropostale << yeah I went there, and previous Target Go Collections. Feeling a little uninspired right now.
