Trench Warfare (part deux)

Burberry

While I’m fighting for the answer to the top pick in Trench for the spring season, Christopher Bailey’s already figured it out. This is from the Burberry Spring 2007 collection and this is my wallet getting thinner for the season.

One to Watch

Sari Gueron
I’m slowly turning my eye to Sari Gueron. Maybe I’m playing catchup. Gueron first started her line with a small collection of dresses and is now extending it into accessories like the flats shown in detail above. Some stand outs from the Spring collection include her dress on the left of cotton/silk crinkle chiffon with embroidery. Then my personal favorite is the Jacquard coat and the cotton/poplin dress shown at New York fashion week this past September. All this adds up to an even stronger Asian inspired Fall collection.

Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s Little Black Dress

Alessandro Dell'Acqua

Now see, this is exactly what Spring is about. Something flirty, girlish, and easy to dress with others. Alessandro Dell’Acqua has a varied Spring line that is half homage to Gianni Versace half jungle cat obsession (pick one, leopard, zebra -though not a cat-, tiger). The above is one of the stronger pieces from his line. I say this because he didn’t overdo the whole leopard print thing that is a signature part of of his Spring 2007 collection. A simple black sleevless dress that can be accessorized with virtually anything.

He chose the leopard print flats and if you can accessorize this dress with leopard print flats, you can accessorize it again, with anything.

In deep doo doo

One has to wonder what exactly is going on in the fashion world. All of a sudden there’s an assortment of criminals, low-lives and degenerates roaming the runways. Is the vile underbelly of the industry finally being exposed? Am I being too dramatic? Don’t believe me? Tired of these random questions? Check this list out:

Anand Alexander
Anand Jon Alexander: Designer who was recently charged with forcible rape, lewd acts on a child and other felony counts. Alexander has dressed Paris Hilton (no surprise here) Michelle Rodriguez and Mary J. Blige.

Naomi Campbell: Where to really begin? She been accused multiple times of beating the help. Her most recent run-in with the law includes beating her maid with her diamond encrusted cell phone. She’s currently doing a stint this week at the Sanitation department’s community service facilities. (As an aside, how must you feel if you are a sanitation worker who’s regular 9 to 5 is the same job that Naomi Campbell and others are given as punishment?)

Kate Moss
Kate Moss: Where to begin part 2? Notorious for being on all types of illegal substances, was caught doing lines in a studio on camera. The comeback kid though has turned it around with covers on W and a first time ever interview with British Vogue. Sometimes besides being a model, crime does pay.

Peter Braunstein: Who? Forrmer WWD writer Peter Braunstein that’s who. Charged with posing as a fireman (it was Halloween), setting off an alarm then raping someone in her apartment, Braunstein led police officers on a chase across several states when he was finally nabbed on a college campus. The now dubbed “Halloween rapist” is serving hard time for his misdeeds.

I’m sure there’s more…

Style Prophet: Canadian Designer Leads Fashion's Future
Stephanie Nolasco

At the age of fourteen, Lacy Barry was given a religious premonition of her future with fashion. The word "ephoe," a plural form of the eight ritual garments worn by Jewish high priests, appeared in her dream. Barry, age 24, is the founder of Ephoe Inc., a label whose influences come from lush tropical colors, Audrey Hepburn and Victorian couture... [Go]
