Mainaim of Russia

Main AImMain AIm

If I said that I didn’t want at least half the pieces coming out of the Mainaim show from Russia’s Fall fashion week you could label me a liar. With such detailed and inventive uses of fabric and color, it’s hard not to label the designer a rising star. My only wish is to literally see the show in person, but from the photos online it’s doubtful anything got lost in the translation from video to photo. I can point to the hooded dress with the plaid-like designs on the cutoff vest as a favorite, but I might neglect the leather and fabric three quarter inch herringbone coat and several other pieces that I just want to pull from my screen and wear.

Avril’s New, New Look

Avril Lavigne

This was Avril Lavignes in Harper’s Bazaar a year or so ago. She was touting a more feminine/womanly look. In the Harper’s spread she was in Gucci, Manolo and other non-teeny bopper attire. She stated:

I’m starting to feel more feminine. I’m getting into hair and makeup and image. That’s the best part of being a girl.

Fast forward to the release of her new album (4/26), The Best Damn Thing, and we have the new, new Avril Lavigne this time she’s feminine but, maybe possibly less womanly. Though I won’t hold a grudge or call her out for not being true to her word, I definitely have to wonder what her stylists were thinking when they put her in tube socks, heels and fishnets. Did they forget what she told Harper’s? Was she supposed to be girly or was she womanly?

Conversions

Love Birds

Central St. Martins student designer Chailie Ho, may be on to something. She’s created a line of clothing simply by using one item over and over again. While she hasn’t thought of a name for it, we’re officially dubbing it the converted dresstopskirt. It’s not the technical name for it and we’re still putting it through it’s paces. See her many uses for this one piece on the rooftops of London here:

Denisa Everywhere

Denisa DvorakovaDenisa Dvorakova

I recently saw a spread in Italian Vogue a couple of months back and couldn’t quite remember the name of this beauty. Then saw her again in W and realized she was the real thing; not simply because she was in W but because she was featured in Dazed and Confused, Hint and in a Chloe show. Come to find out Denisa Dvorakova is making the rounds at all the high end magazines. She’s also won Elite’s Model Look award. Supermodel in the making? Hard not to take notice.
