What’s Right with this Picture
JC Report has a good interview with Kate Betts up (you know, Time, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar etc).
What’s really interesting though is watching the evolution of Time Style and Design from nearly nothing to having quarterly covers and features worthy of picking up, even if it is a supplement to the larger Time publication itself.

The Meaning of Chic
There’s this endless stream of necessary conciousness coming from Look Online’s editor in chief Marilyn Kirschner and her commentary on what is chic and modern (two overused buzzwords) in the industry right now. Kirschner’s commentary was prophetic in nature as many of her “predictions” prior to New York’s fall 2007 fashion week panned out to be true. It’s a treat to see her talk about upcoming trends for the season because she’s part of the few in the industry that seem to know what their talking about; rather than talking so much to the point that you’re convinced she’s saying something relevant. I could go on and gush about this video, but you’d think she were paying me to say this. She’s not. Click here to see the report.

Fashion Indie and Restaurants Against Hunger
** update 2:35pm (we have a couple of extra tickets send an e-mail to Michelle@papierdoll.net, and you may get one for free no less)
As if we needed a reason to hobnob with celebrities. One of our bookmarked sites, Fashion Indie, is co-sponsoring an event entitled Restaurants Against Hunger. They recently held fashion shows at 4 major restaurants in New York to the delight of several restaurant patrons (where else but New York can you get lasagna and a 6 foot model walking down a makeshift runway?).
Tomorrow night, they are holding an event with tons of celebrities and guests to bring awareness to this ongoing problem. In New York City alone when last they did a homeless census count, they found over 2,000 people living in the streets without food or proper clothing. This is a very worthy cause.
The Papierdoll team will be out at this event (we purchased our tickets) and there are still some available. Head over there now.

Being Lucky…and Sarada
Papierdoll Magazine updates today featuring an interview with twin designers Lucky and Sarada Ravindra of Queue. Former professional tennis players turned designers, they speak on a variety of issues including the evolution of their line from Spring 2007 to Fall 2007 (we’ll publish photos tomorrow), the transition from living in Miami to moving to New York and functioning in the fashion world as twin designers. Some interesting quotes from the article include:
on the evolution of their line:
But when we first started we didn’t know what we were doing on some levels. I mean it was a whole new thing for us, we didn’t go to fashion school, we had nothing to do with the industry at all and it was a lot of trial and error.
on modeling their own clothes:
We have thought about using other models for the line, we started doing it at first not because we saw ourselves as models. The brand was about an idea that we were trying to project in terms of lifestyle. It was convenient for us and it seemed natural for us to just do it ourselves.
on the transition between their Spring and Fall line:
I think that’s something we also didn’t think about when we were designing in the past. We never thought about how we felt about the line personally. We created what we thought the market wanted. With the Fall line, we went with what we wanted to do and we decided that if we were going to continue doing this, we would do it based on how we wanted it to be done.
