I guess the the thing I dislike about fashion most is how we’re never content to look exhaustively at what we have. When I say we, I mean the collective body. You, reading this blog post right now, me, writing it. The trend creators who are on the street walking somewhere. The imitators in their ivory towers feigning the intelligence of the real prognosticators…who are on the street walking somewhere unaware that some designer or fashion editor is saying…”that’s what will be in this season!” Then they go scurrying away as if they’ve singlehandedly created “the look” for the season. It’s Monday I’m allowed to be somewhat bitter.

Twinkle by Wenlan

I decided to spend this week in preview mode for the fall. All week I’ll be picking apart trends (blah) and timeless pieces we can all look forward to wearing this fall. I start with Twinkle by Wenlan. The Fall 2007 show was one of my favorite of the season, though I seem to be in the minority at Papierdoll on this subject.

What attracted me the most to this collection was the fact that Wenlan Chia, the designer, literally created fall with the line. It is not this pretentious, quasi-fall collection. It’s layered, it’s hooded v-neck sweater vests, she’s playful with the colors and allows them to run the gamut from super bright whites (which I will definitely be wearing after labor day), to dark gray multi-pocketed pea coats. This is a collection you will want for the Fall season. Tomorrow we cross the Atlantic Ocean and look at Noir’s ideas for dressing up.

Considering the now ubiquitous trend of disposable fashion where all that seems to matter is a cute factor, Thomas Voorn's intellectual take on clothing is not only refreshing, but enlightening. Voorn's fascination with clothing calls to mind an anthropologist intrigued with skeletal remains, a sociologist... [Go]
