It’s not real folks

Apparently, either someone is lying or someone is about to get sued BIG time. I’m not going to say which one I believe for fear of getting sued. Benetton apparently denies that this ad,

Benetton

is theirs and is threatening a lawsuit to anyone who even attempted to use photoshop to create this outrageous ad. $50 bucks says they never find the fiend.

Read more about it here.

Marc Jacobs circa 2005

Remember how last week we were reeling from Marc Jacobs cool new fashion ads for the fall? I was able to dig up an old set of ads (from 2005) and realized he’s been doing the whole super genius edge chic thing for awhile. Witness his 2005 fall winter ads with Kirsten MacMenamy shot by Juergen Teller.

I live in the fashion capital…not

If Reuters attended last season’s New York fashion week, they would be signing a different tune.

I was going to end the post there but you know how sometimes I get all wordy and attempt to explain myself while not making any sense in the process. Try as I might and how it may be futile I will simply say this: New York is daring, New York has money, but is New York creative? Je ne sais pas. I’m going to personally go with London. And if you don’t believe me, check out their runways.

Speaking of emerging designers

I Googled for Erin Fetherston after seeing theing the list of Vogue finalists and found either a fan site (not likely) of Fetherson or an early incarnation of the Fetherston presence online. Someone please clear this up. I am not certain if it was a viral marketing type thing or if it really was her site before she became Erin Fetherston in caps. Here’s a screenshot of the site:

Erin Fetherston

I found it quite interesting in the sense that everyone gets their start somewhere. While watching shows like Project Runway and taking in shows during fashion week that simply won’t allow bloggers in, I get to thinking that wow, these pretentious assholes used to be pretentious asshole interns, lackeys and wannabees. Lest anyone be mistaken, I am not grouping Fetherston in my previous statement. I am merely looking at it from a purely anecdotal perspective.

Ever wonder what MJ (not the singer) did before becomming designer royalty? What about DVF? Were they always rich, were they always holding fashion shows that were locked off to the mere underlings of the fashion world? I wonder.

Vogue Finalists (please stand)

Band of Oustiders

Band of Outsiders, Erin Fetherston, Michael Bastian, Philip Crangi, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Rogan, Three AsFour, Vena Cava, VPL by Victoria Bartlett All are part of the hit parade of finalists that is Vogue’s and CFDA’s fashion fund. They will get 200k and be mentored by a fashion god so they in turn can become fashion gods. It is really a toss up for me between Erin Fetherston and Phillip Lim, but my money is on Fetherston (Lim is the favorite btw). The winners are going to be announced November 15th, but this is not a horse race with an unpredictable winner. Trust me.

Mod is back in a major way. One only need look at the success of a designer like Anya Teresse of Kate and Kass to see that mod is here to stay.
