The Seven Ads

Went on WWD today and read about the all new Seven for All Mankind ads. I won’t drone on about whether I like them or not, but I will say this: it’s sort of a tease. From the photos I’ve seen it’s like one of them takes the brand in a whole new direction. It goes upscale without sacrificing anything Seven. The rest look like denim ads from somewhere in the 80s. I’ll let you be the judge.

You Like the Dress…Ok, We get it.

Vogue

Wendy over at Flypaper remarks that Winona Ryder snagged (some of you will find the word funny, with her history) Marc Jacobs’ dress from his New York showing at fall fashion week, and wore it on the cover of Vogue’s August issue as well as the Met Costume Gala awhile back. She wonders whether Ryder is angling for another Marc Jacobs campaign. Since the ads are already starting to run, we doubt it, but stranger things have happened. She could swoop in and steal (har, har) the spotlight.

As an aside, why is the American Vogue covers progressively wacker than the French Vogue covers? As another aside, they went with a model last month and went back to celebrity on the cover this month. Can someone give me the Diana Vreeland Vogues, just. one. more. time?

Victoria Beckham
Than watched Posh Spice’s new show. Ok, I’m using hyperbole.

According to CNN, Victoria Beckham’s show about her fabulous life, fashion and the arduous move to Los Angeles had approximately 4.9 million people watching. This is against a wife swap rerun on ABC, reruns on CBS and whatever’s on at Fox. The CNN article quotes a New York Times writer who says that Beckham’s show is a type of reality series that

“rely on a fish-out-of-water conceit but in Beverly Hills she is a fish-in-Evian, one rich, blonde, spray tanned wife-of among many.”

ouch.

A writer from the New York Post is a bit more restrained in her criticism, but not by much. She writes:

Beckham, who is bizarrely constantly posing even in her own home, offers insights about how major a certain purse is or how her new phone has changed her life.”

We can take or leave her line of jeans, sunglasses and perfumes and if her show is any indication, the world at large might feel the same way.

Calvin Klein Fall Ads

Calvin Klein

There are no butt cheeks coming out of his ads this season, but they are still edgy/artistic nonetheless. We think Klein probably agrees with Fashion Indie that we’re way off our rocker thinking that wide legs jeans are going to be everywhere this fall. He goes with the skinny jeans everywhere and in-between.

Let me re-state. I AM NOT a fan of the wide-leg jeans thing as they are a rehash of some pseudo 70s trend from the early 2000s. I was just making an observation. (that’s me backtracking like the coward that I am)

PS Lara Stone and Jamie Burke never looked so fabulous.
