I Want it Wider?

Double Entendre’s aside, this post is directly related to the wide-leg-bell-bottom phenomenon taking over for the fall. Fashiontribes own Lesley Scott, blogs about it in DETAIL with several examples of what we will be wearing this fall. I embrace it and am a little scare at the same time. For a l-o-n-g while the skinny jeans thing was it. It was basically the denim to have. The issue here was you had to be skinny to take part in the trend. So the bone-thin challenged had issues simply fitting into something made for women in the negative zero category.
This new trend may be a particular saviour to the every woman. No matter what your size, there will be a wide-leg for you. And now that the Gap has jumped on to this conversation with their own version, it’s ready for mass market.

Dear Jane
Read about the closing of Jane Magazine yesterday on the New York Times website and couldn’t help but think that maybe this is an ongoing trend with print magazines. While I still love to hold a fresh new fashion magazine in my hand either from the store or delivered to my cramped apartment mailbox, there’s nothing like waking up in the morning and seeing just a bunch of new fashion items with the tons of blogs and online magazines all over the place. It makes me think that since the news is so new, what do you get with print magazines now? Even Elle Girl went online. The difference with this Jane thing though is that they are not going online, they are going to their grave.
The article states that the founder and former Editor-in-Chief, Jane Pratt, is working on a new magazine. Let’s hope she’ll put it online. It may fare better.
It Takes too Long…Fashionably

I was walking around Union Square yesterday and saw this interesting display. A woman was simply taking forever to do everything. I never paused to ask them what this whole thing was about. Just figured in my jaded New York mind, something artsy, nothing to see here. I then went to the New York Times website and saw the exact same girl and an explanation of exactly what was going on there. A student project working off of a hope and a prayer (basically a shoestring budget) was documenting all the stages of dress prior to a date. Basically the woman getting ready for her date…SINCE SATURDAY…is performance artist and professor at Colorado College, Lián Amaris Sifuentes. The photo above (from the New York Times website) shows her dressed in the middle of Union Square in a beautiful evening gown, she was supposed to be ready by Sunday night (or Monday?) for her date.
Will she be ready in time? And if she’s taking 72 hours to get ready this guy better look like James Blount.

The Babushka

Of course it is making a return. If fashion is cyclical then somehow someway this would just be logical. Wrapping up our intial coverage of fall trends is the return of the Babushka. If you ask the women at Brighton Beach, it never left. Vera Wang is generally credited with lighting the flame for this head wear but many designers showed their affection for this almost forgotten accessory. One in particular was Bora Aksu at London fashion week this past Spring (for the Fall season, see above photo). The women in New York will be clamoring for their very own Babushkas and I say why not. Some of the standouts in terms of this head wear include the aforementioned Wang and Bora Aksu, Marc Jacobs and Blumarine. The knockoffs will come a-plenty, but I advise that you get from one of these designers. The genuine article can not be beat. Next week we delve into shoes and other accessories for the Fall, in our ongoing preview.
Bold is Back

Looking at the makeup trends being used this fall, neon hues are exploding on the runways, and with reason. These neon colors can express a fun and flirtatious side to one’s personality. Even if you’re not aware that it exists. Accompanied with nude lips, neon eyes can draw the attention they crave.
If neon doesn’t please you, fall designers all also using the sultry looks of the forties with their clothing lines. What can draw more attention than deep red lips or dark smokey eyes? To achieve success in this look, keep your face balanced by not caking on foundation and blush, you dont want to over dramatize your look.
