Vera Wang at Kohl’s redux

I don’t know how it happened, but a couple of weeks back I walked into the Kohl’s in Brooklyn and saw some of the Vera Wang collection at the store. I’ve never been so much as tempted even slightly in any way at purchasing any clothing item from Kohl’s, yet found myself staring incessantly, almost in a voyeuristic manner hoping no one would catch me, (we’re talking stalker here) at the dress you see below in the top left photo. The God’s must be crazy.

Jens Laugesen in London (via cellphone)

Jens Laugesen
photo Tenisha Anderson (for iPapier)

Never the one to shy away from a plug for a sister site, I started combing through photos from our coverage in London. Yes we have a boatload of detail photos from the shows, but we also have more cell phone pictures than you can shake a Nokia at or an iPhone (I hear that’s the new “thing” now). This photo is from the Jens Laugesen show, which one of our editors called dreamy. We shit you not, she used that word. See more upcoming cellphone photos on our via iPapier.

Raf Simons will you marry me?

Jil Sander
photo: (Luca Bruno/Associated Press, for The New York Times)

If they say a picture is worth a thousand words, then Raf Simons’ spectacle at Milan fashion week for Jil Sander speaks volumes both literally and figuratively. The photo above alone demonstrates how Simons is doing for women what he did for men in the 90s. I’m speaking of the light silhouette, the bright inviting colors, the play on shapes. We may be looking at the definitive collection for the Spring season. Making room for Jil Sander in my closet right. about. now.

Gianfranco Ferre in Milan

With the death of Gianfranco Ferre this past year many were wondering what direction the collection would take this season. Looks like it might not have taken the great turn that we were all hoping for. Lars Nilson can’t come soon enough. Here’s an excerpt from Nicole Phelps review on Style.com:

Gone were Ferré’s sculptural silhouettes; in their stead was a flowing, languid look…
…This is a collection in holding pattern, and a confused one at that. Ferré and his legacy deserve more.

The Sex in the City Movie or What Happened While We Were Gone

While we were incessantly covering fashion week a bunch of things happened that shook the foundations of the earth. You can see the start of hyperbole with that very statement or the fact that this is a Sex in the City centered post. Apparently Carrie and folks were not getting on well behind the scenes, but the fashions on display from the photos look like a labor of love from everything you can’t have.

Sex and the City

The reports of grousing on set by Kim Cattrall and that fabulous green print trench thingy worn by Sarah Jessica Parker Broderick (never have I used so many consonants) and all the fun stuff that come with shooting a movie in Manhattan make for plenty of hijinx. Somewhere inthe blogosphere someone has created a Sex in the City movie watch. Let me know where it is so I can subscribe to the feed.

As an aside, I’m going to go on record and state that suspension of disbelief in movies is one thing, but women really don’t dress as if they are going to a fashion show just for coffee with the girls in NYC. Right? Right?

Papierdoll July 2008 Interview

Interview: Thomas Voorn
Sonia Pereira Murphy

Considering the now ubiquitous trend of disposable fashion where all that seems to matter is a cute factor, Thomas Voorn's intellectual take on clothing is not only refreshing, but enlightening. Voorn's fascination with clothing calls to mind an anthropologist intrigued with skeletal remains, a sociologist... [Go]
