Are Dockers Ok?

The title is a question I’ve asked myself ever more so recently and thought I’d address this morning as I am getting ready to head into the office. As a matter of fact a reader Angela S., sent me just that question this past Friday:

Eva, I might not always agree with your points but I’ve come to terms with the fact that you lay them out in a well thought out way. Agree with them or not, I like hearing your opinion on things. So I guess I will ask you your opinion on the Dockers collection. I recently took a look at it in Macy’s and wondered why would I spend xxxxxx amount of dollars on something higher end when I could purchase Dockers that look equally as good? Your thoughts?

I’ll save the bargain shopping talk for Thriftychick, but I can comment by saying simple that, Dockers are fine. They are as acceptable as Ann Taylor separates or something from INC or Nine West. For a long time they were known as the “chino brand” boring, staid and sensible. While they may still be the latter there is still some spice that keep them from being any of the 2 formers. A recent ad making the print magazine circuits proves my point in a round about way. See the below ad:

The collection for the fall will have anyone in your office wondering whether they are some other brand to which you can amusingly reply, no, Dockers Collection, bitch. (I always like ending my sentences with that word, go figure)

While I don’t advocate tossing aside your aspirational hopes and dreams for something from Jil Sander or Anne Klein, I will say that you can feel good about wearing it without saying am I really proudly wearing Dockers. At this point I feel as if I am supposed to write the normal feel good caveat about fashion being about you and how you should wear what you feel good about. I’ll toss that sugary talk for now.
