Deceiving Appearances

Still thumbing through the “biggest Vogue issue ever” - damn you Anna Wintour, I stumbled on an ad and initially looked at the product being featured. The product was a pair of shoes. Typical designer ankle boots, nothing super special. I simply thought, ok how many hundreds (maybe thousands) of dollars is this boot going to cost? I then proceeded to move up the page to see the designer behind the boots. Click the photo below to see who it is.

Guess Who Makes these Shoes

I couldn’t believe it either. Not like this is earth shattering news. I remember having an conversation with another blogger and she said that this “designer” was the shit. I just couldn’t believe though for the 3 seconds I looked at the boots without seeing the complete ad, that they made what appeared to be high quality boots. I’ll tease no more, just click the photo.

Damn, Damn, Damn

Channeling Florida Evans for a moment, I, in a moment of awe kept saying damn when I looked through some of our fall fashion week photos. If I could get our photographers in a room and give them all big hugs, I would. They captured some really amazing shows this past February. So here’s my breakdown of pieces from the various collections I am dying to get my clammy little hands on. I’ve broken them down by photographer then designer. I’m such a neat, organization freak:

Jewelry done the Indie Way

Indie Fixx

Lesley Scott at Fashiontribes recommends looking at indie jewelry designer Jen Wallace for jewelry beyond the worn path and we couldn’t agree more. Jen’s line of jewelry has been a favorite here at Papierdoll. The earrings you see above are a sampling of what you’ll find on her website Tilting Swiftly website. Wallace tells Scott that:

“Indie shops offer shoppers so much more for their money. Original handcrafted designs with the special loving touch that only someone who actually makes the products they sell can offer. Shoppers like the personal experience and being able to communicate directly with the artists and designers.”

Read the post here. You can find Jen’s line over here at Tilting Swiftly.

Steven Meisel

Forbes has another one of their random lists of important people. This time, Forbes looks at the 5 most important people in fashion modeling. If you were looking to start your career in modeling, this is the list of who can get you on the cover of Vogue. On Steve Meisel Forbes writer Kiri Blakely states:

Meisel is one of the few photographers in the world who can launch the career of a model. His photographs regularly appear on the cover of Vogue, and he is credited with having discovered new sensation DKNY model Jessica Stam, as well as supermodel legends Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell.

The notables of the list include Edward Razek, Ivan Bart of IMG, Aerin Lauder of Estee Lauder, and Anna Wintour (duh).

Take a look at why they are god awfully so important.

Papierdoll July 2008 Interview

Interview: Thomas Voorn
Sonia Pereira Murphy

Considering the now ubiquitous trend of disposable fashion where all that seems to matter is a cute factor, Thomas Voorn's intellectual take on clothing is not only refreshing, but enlightening. Voorn's fascination with clothing calls to mind an anthropologist intrigued with skeletal remains, a sociologist... [Go]
