Shanghai Surprise

Shanghai Fashion Week

Though we’re sure Karl Lagerfeld and Nikolas Ghesquiere will sleep well tonight and not worry about the designers at Shanghai Fashion week, it’s worth noting the strides the designers at the so-called lesser shows are making. An example of this would be an Empire Waist dress shown from the Spring 2007 collection of WXW & WXK. On any other occasion and obscuring the headline, one would swear on a stack of bibles that it came directly from (insert Eurpoean Atelier here). So what’s the moral of the story? Never underestimate the underdog? Don’t always believe Chinese items are knockoffs? Using random consonants that resemble radio station call letters might be the cool thing to do if you are looking to name your fashion house? Yes… AND

Start looking for these designers at obscure boutiques in Manhattan and if you can’t find them, demand that your obscure boutique carry it. We can virtually guarantee that you might be the only one wearing a Shanghai designer in New York.
