NYC Fashion Week Preview: Twinkle by Wenlan

Twinkle by Wenlan

I’ll throw out the appearance of impartiality right now by stating that I am a fan. So anything I say can be taken with a grain of salt…or not. After gushing excessively over last fall’s Twinkle by Wenlan collection, I’m hoping this season brings more of what was loved from the last. Wenlan Chia doesn’t try anything elaborate or a reinvention of the wheel. She appreciates the female form and makes clothes that complement that form. She’s famous for her use of knits which were used heavily during last fall’s showing. I said back then that the particular collection, made fall, seem like fall. You find that other designers take dramatic liberty with their Fall shows and create pieces that are nearly indiscernible from Spring/Summer.

That seasonal confusion doesn’t exist with the Twinkle collection and this is definitely on a short list of must-see shows.

I Wasn’t Excited Until…………..

I saw this walking to the office yesterday. I thought that the ship had sailed and waiting almost four years to the date of the last episode wouldn’t interest anyone. But after seeing the trailer and this exciting movie poster I got the same chills I use to get every Sunday night. If there is one shameless indulgence that I am allowed, let this be it…

Natalia Vodianova Retires

Natalia Vodianova

I don’t use the word hero often, but when I do, it means something…at least to me. The super resume looks something like this: three days after giving birth (to her third child nonetheless), Natalia Vodianova walked in Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2008 show, walked Valentino’s last show, and celebrated her almost 10th year walking the runways.

Some people just have coffee and go to work in the morning. Mind you, I was looking for the pregnancy after-pouch in the Spring/Summer 2008 photos, it couldn’t be that hard to find I figure… she’s wearing a slinky Valentino dress for chrissakes. No pouch.

Some people are truly superhuman.

Nokia 7900 Crystal Prism by Frederique Daubal

Daubal
Bodyparts flailing, nipples being pinched, mouths, eyes, tongues…no I’m not talking about the latest Jenna Jameson flick. I’m talking about the ad campaign for the new Nokia Crystal 7900 which was designed by the famous (or at least should be) Frédérique Daubal. You can barely make any single body part out, but on detailed inspection things start becoming somewhat clear.
Daubal
The phone puts the onus on companies to start getting design cues from creative directors more often. Easy to reach buttons, sleek design and all the while functional.
