J’s Spring

Typo not withstanding, our photographer’s journal of J. Mendel’s Spring collection succinctly describes what the line appeared to be: a strong revival of the 70s. Where Meryl on Monday went for Sue Stemp’s “kaleidescope whimsical shape bent”, my preference is J Mendel’s 70s “WKRP in Cincinnatis” look. Don’t believe that the designer totally went Loni Anderson on us? Take a look at the photo below:

It’s hard not to fight comparisons of other lines but where a good chunk of designers went with some variation of color block or underwear as outerwear, Mendel’s theme was simply beauty. It was an uncomplicated, undistorted look at what I really want this Spring. Something flirty without being too overt (sorry MJ). I also don’t want to be a part of some sort of trend. I think Mendel’s collection does that without sacrificing modernity. So my take for Spring aside from a particular trend or look is a bit of designer loyalty with J Mendel’s Spring collection.
