You Need to Read This

Look Magazine

When we first received New York Magazine’s Look edition we were indifferent. Then taking it on the train from Manhattan to Brooklyn proved to be one of the best reads post-fashion week. The stats-obsessed, photography loving New York magazine writers pour over every possible detail from fashion week. From following a designer as she gets ready for her fashion show during the day (dropping off her kids, talking to models, before runway and after), to finding out what the limo and car service drivers overhear during fashion week. The mag even asks questions like who is their favorite designer (Calvin Klein wins by a large margin) and if anyone has had sex in the back of their car during fashion week (they become a little less forthcoming with those details).

Definitely a good read if you’re looking to understand the dynamics (and somewhat pleasantly vile underbelly) of fashion week. It is on newstands now.

Super Slick Lips

Korres Lip Gloss

This lip gloss is making it’s way around the office. Korres’ cherry oil lip gloss is this super slick, high shine color product that promises to hydrate lips, while providing protection via vitamins E & C, all this while curing all major diseases and putting an extra Spring in your step. That’s hyperbole on this writer’s part. It won’t cure the world’s ills but it’s definitely receiving high praise here at the ‘doll. They key is that it’s part of that whole eco-aware thing and is completely paraben free, mineral oil free, propylene glycol free and ethanolamine free. To tell you the truth most don’t don’t what the heck those chemicals are (your’s truly included).

They sound like things you don’t want on your lips though so we’ll give Korres that. The reason why this lip gloss deserves it’s own blog post, is simply because of the shiny longevity of the whole affair. Put it on in the morning and by 1pm it will most likely still be there. Maybe not as shiny, but still there. One has to wonder if there are no chemicals that may prove to be harmful to lips 50 years from now, how do they get this product to work so well?

We don’t know, but this comes highly recommended.

Please explain why…

Martin margiela Dress…this model has a black line going across her eyes? The dress is wonderful and that was the focal point of this post, but it took a wicked left turn at understanding why we can’t know who this model is. While Martin Margiela normally covers his model’s eyes, the question that begs answering is why? And maybe one of our regular readers can enlighten us as to why this is so.

Part two of this post is to address the fact that this convertible day dress is gorgeous and fits that mold of what to wear whether it be in the realm of casual (put boots on), or dress up (put on heels). A necessary this season.

Vogue Italia gets all Black on Us

Black ModelsMan, the fashion industry really is in exercising it’s demons mode. From using sweatshops, to being eco-aware, to using anorexic models and now Vogue Italia is set to shine the light on the disgusting process of excluding models of color from being the pages of their publication, by making an almost all black issue this July. It’s no secret that we’ve had our fun lambasting designers and magazines that seem to be color blind. That is, blind to models of color. That is, not even realizing beauty from non-white models exist, and can actually make clothes look… gasp… appealing. This might even lead to an increase in sales. And what are we doing this for if we are not making money…right? Right?

So congratulations to Vogue Italia for making this happen. But this shouldn’t be a one-time thing and the fashion industry has a habit of regressing quickly and making things worse. There’s almost an expectation that after this issue, someone might have a black, 14 year old, anorexic model wearing items from a designer who uses endangered species skin as material, all made in a South American sweatshop. Or not.

Just call him Sex from now on

David Beckham

David Beckham is a man who should legally change his name to Sex. Some here in the office don’t understand his allure, but the vast majority get it. He states that he was “quite uncomfortable” posing for the Emporio Armani ads (and yes girls, that ALL him). A guy like Kevin Davitian should be quite uncomfortable in a Emporio Armani ad. Beckham needs to come to terms with the fact that everyone needs to see him in all manner of designer underwear at all times.

Style Prophet: Canadian Designer Leads Fashion's Future
Stephanie Nolasco

At the age of fourteen, Lacy Barry was given a religious premonition of her future with fashion. The word "ephoe," a plural form of the eight ritual garments worn by Jewish high priests, appeared in her dream. Barry, age 24, is the founder of Ephoe Inc., a label whose influences come from lush tropical colors, Audrey Hepburn and Victorian couture... [Go]
