Falling for Heels

6 Inch Heels

How does one walk on 6 inch heels? Simple. Have a guy hold you up as you’re walking. That was the Gwyneth Paltrow solution as she walked in her 6 inch heels. The New York Daily News has an article on that topic and while they don’t cover any new ground the photo gallery alone of models falling in their heels is worth the price of admission. Have heels gotten out of control? In a word yes. 6 inch heels cause nodules on your feet, ask Posh. The solution according to the article is wearing a mix of flats at times and then wearing heels. Designers are not creating heels for comfort, the very notion is anti-thetical to what heels are all about. Heels are meant to be beautiful, almost artlike (see Louboutin post earlier this week).

So to answer the original question: How does one walk on 6 inch heels, practice, practice practice.

Speaking of shoes, DSW has finally opened their online store.

BCBG Ad

BCBG

We’re going to be talking about New York Magazine’s Look fashion week magazine in-depth on Friday and next week because it was particularly good and definitely something you should pick up. There was a BCBG ad in the magazine. While not particularly earth-shattering, it was definitely beautifully executed. Red heads are not used enough in fashion ads and simply on first inspection the ad serves its purpose, the shoes are absolutely necessary.

Sigourney Weaver then and now

Sigourney Weaver

Another set of photos for you to peruse in the what happened to category. Signourney Weaver at last night’s premiere of Baby Mama during the Tribeca Film Festival. On the right, being featured in Harper’s Bazaar. Still looking no different at first glance, the woman ages well, but the style consideration gives pause. Come on.. your better than that, you used to be the gate keeper for chrissakes. (The nerd is coming out)

World’s Sexiest Woman

Megan Fox, Agyness Deyn

Your on this FASHION BLOG and you’re wondering what does fashion have to do with some inane mouth breathing poll conducted by a bunch of chauvinist. Here’s the explanation: the model of the year, Agyness Deyn and the World’s Sexiest Woman are polar opposites.

There could be a variety of reasons for this. It could be that the men in the fashion industry aren’t exactly straight and love girls with a certain boyish charm, it could be that women find the virtues of this model to be far superior to that of Megan Fox, who incidentally is… THE WORLD’S SEXIEST WOMAN. It could just be that the average male’s perception of beauty is diametrically opposed to a woman’s perception of beauty. So without getting all philosophical and fumbling on an explanation, the question is raised why is the world’s sexiest woman and the model of the year, two different people?

Wonderbra Commercial Circa 1979

Ahh 1979, Jimmy Carter was president, New York had just had a blackout 2 years earlier, oil prices were sky high and people had to wait in line to get gas on different days. Times were much simplerthen. That’s especially the case when looking back at this Wonder Bra commercial. It changed lives back in 1979 and is still doing the same now. Incidentally, I was gestating in my mother’s womb around that time waiting to be foisted on the world a couple of months later in 1980.

Style Prophet: Canadian Designer Leads Fashion's Future
Stephanie Nolasco

At the age of fourteen, Lacy Barry was given a religious premonition of her future with fashion. The word "ephoe," a plural form of the eight ritual garments worn by Jewish high priests, appeared in her dream. Barry, age 24, is the founder of Ephoe Inc., a label whose influences come from lush tropical colors, Audrey Hepburn and Victorian couture... [Go]
