You have to admire designers that work through various issues, against all odds and go out to get things done. A great example of this is what happened earlier this week with Chicago Fashion week. An unscrupulous promoter setup this fashion week event, couldn’t get 4 designers into the U.S., couldn’t sell tickets, lost the major sponsor, and told the designers showing at the last minute that the event was being canceled… postponed.
So what do the designers do? The go and create their own show. The four designers (Berny Martin, James De Colon, Elysia Hang-Fu and Jorge Del Busto) showing during this fashion week are newcomers to the scene but you have to admire their spirit and tenacity against adversity to hold their own show after getting just a little shafted. So, if you’re going to be in Chicago tonight, visit their show at 7pm near the grand ballroom at Navy Pier.

Heal Thy Hair

Somewhere there’s a commandment that is saying just as much when it comes to hair. You see them everyday walking near you and around you. Women who have hair that is desperately in need of help. Desperate because of split ends, because of overuse of chemicals, because of being in a harsh environment (heat, humidity etc). Hamadi’s Healing Serum comes highly recommended for those having problems of that nature. Made of all the organic good stuff that you look for, it’s main purpose is to end the frizz and entanglements that you find so prevalent in today’s hair. The end result? Shiny, lustrous hair that seals your natural hair oils and makes you feel absolutely wonderful and ready to leap tall buildings in a single bound. You go, Supergirl.

Elizabeth Hurley and Snogging
There’s a zoo-like pleasure in reading an article on Liz Hurley in the London based Timeonline. It’s like watching a train wreck happen and not being able to look away. The train wreck in this sense is the interview itself. You’ll find the use of the word “snog” (translation, sex) as in a reporter said that they had sex in the 80s to which she replied, “Fantastic”. They didn’t really, but hey who cares, right? In the article Hurley espouses her beliefs on backless anything, wearing denim seven days a week and snogging. She seems to prattle on about fashion but makes no real important statements, though reading through it, there’s some sort of false hope that evaporates mid-way through that she will say something ground breaking.
It’s a time waster. Click here to read.
Update: Snogging is actually making out, not literally having sex. Thank you Cecillia for showing me the error of my ways!

This is Ultra for April
Ultra’s April photo editorial is breathtaking. For those living under a rock Ultrapdx, is what Vogue would be like if it were cool and had some sort of Portland edition. This month they havde a photo editorial entitled Out East shot by photographer Kevin Focht. A good smattering of what’s featured comes in the form of fashion from what’s quickly becoming eco-aware, sustainable fashion capital of the world (that’s not hyperbole folks), Portland. Take a look here.

Sustainably Edun
With Earth week, the advent of everything green it’s good to know that Edun picked up the torch way earlier and the mission statement/mantra is environmentally aware fashion. The great thing with this mantra and execution is that environmentally aware need not mean boring. The above photo is from the designer’s Spring collection. The entire men’s collection is a bit weaker than what’s coming for women, but if you are adamant about having something green (read sustainable and environmentally friendly) in your closet, this is it.

Style Prophet: Canadian Designer Leads Fashion's Future
Stephanie Nolasco
At the age of fourteen, Lacy Barry was given a religious premonition of her future with fashion. The word "ephoe," a plural form of the eight ritual garments worn by Jewish high priests, appeared in her dream. Barry, age 24, is the founder of Ephoe Inc., a label whose influences come from lush tropical colors, Audrey Hepburn and Victorian couture... [Go]
