How Kenneth Blackwell Has Affected the Fashion Set

Kenneth blackwell

The fashion intelligentsia have spoken about the death of Kenneth Blackwell and most have grieved for longer than normal. They dropped a tear into their soy chai latte’s and kept it moving two point five minutes later. There were some heartfelt remembrances though and I’ve cataloged some of them here:

Alexandra Marshall of the New York Times’ The Moment:

While we’re not ones to dwell in sentimentality, even in praise of someone so uniquely salty, Blackwell’s death reminds us of how much we’ve changed, from a time when a critical voice could rise above the fray by dint of sheer meanness alone. And so with a non-glycerin tear smearing our cake mascara, to you, Mr. Blackwell, we say a heartfelt goodbye from the part of us that never knew auf wiedersehen

Chris Ayers of the Times Online noted:

Mr Blackwell confessed to having mixed feelings about being the Simon Cowell figure of his day. He told a reporter that most of the women he attacked on his Worst-Dressed List were people he genuinely admired for their talent, if not their dress sense.

Robin Givhan of the Washington Post said:

It’s a terrible thing to wonder and yet one can’t help entertaining the question: What was Mr. Blackwell wearing in the last hours before his death on Sunday? Was he swaddled in an elegant silk dressing gown as he said his goodbyes to this world? Or was he warm and cuddly in his favorite flannel pj’s?

Needless to say Blackewell’s words and sense of style will be greatly missed.
