Anthropologie — What's your story?

anthropologie_postcard1Okay, so here’s the thing:  Anthropologie is a moderately expensive store that sells ethereal, embellished clothes which call to mind frolicking in a barnyard (or maybe that was just the locale of their last catatalog shoot).

The “about us” blurb on their website has something to do with traveling the world..blah blah…attention to detail…blah…we like to film models walking through wheat — j/k I added the wheat part.  But it says nothing about how the throngs of pseudo hippie girls in the city are left to drool over such pretties that they can’t afford.  Sad.  I’ve always enjoyed purusing the store. However it isn’t my style, I just like to look.

784_anthropologieThe question is begged, whose style is it?  Almost every girl I’ve known who had a jones for the anthro was a nonprofit employee, toiling away trying to save the world one person or plant at a time…and dreaming of doing it all in a $378 flower print dress.  Does Anthro know this? Is their price point (above a core demographic) cutting into their profits?  Or, is this just the collateral damage of offering the quirky, yet unattainable, style of a free spirit?
