What are these about?

Here is a cofession:  I have a bad habit of dissing most new trends as being completely ridiculous.  And even if they don’t seem ridic, per se, I’ll often asess them by saying, “That’s all right, but not for me.”  I said this about boyfriend jeans after J.Crew started featuring them in their catalog.  They looked impossibly chic on the models, but they were not for me.  I said this about rompers/jumpers.  “Cute”, I said, “But not for me.”   And several seasons ago when shoe trends veered away from sleek, pointy toe stilettos to chunky platforms I was convinced that I would never give up my fu** me heels in order to don the sexless, overweight clunkers.

I now have a pair of boyfriend jeans, two rompers (one in heavy rotation), and my shoe collection is almost entirily comprised of wedges, booties, and thick heels.

So, I suppose my opinion on this should be taken with a grain of salt, but the open toed lace up boot?  What are those about?  Would a reference to Oz and its resident antagonist be too obvious here?
