I am sorry Tommy Ton. You are no Scott Schuman.

 

I’m not sure why style.com replaced Scott Schuman (photographer of “The Sartorialist”
 fame) with Tommy Ton to document fashion week street style.  I don’t know who Ton is, style.com simply calls him a globetrotter.  There are clearly some credentials and connections somewhere on his rez or else he wouldn’t have gotten the gig.

But I have to stay that I am sorely disappointed in his work.  His photos are fewer and lack the joie de vivre inherent in Schuman’s images, which I greatly enjoyed during fashion week.  Also, Ton seems fastened to taking pictures of fashion celebrities in trendy outfits, whereas Schuman never goes for the easy celeb photo, typically shooting lower level editors and assistants instead.  Not to mention Schuman’s eye for style (and his commitment to pinpointing originality and concentrating on plays of porportion and color) is far superior. 

The image above is classic Schuman. In  his post he captioned, “Again, it’s not what you wear – it’s how you wear it.”

So, I am sorry Tomm Ton, but you are no Scott Schuman.
