Steve Madden Gripe

There was a time, in my youth, when Steve Madden was considered a discount retailer.  His was a brand that allowed you to buy a shoe trend in the range of about $40-$100.   In the last several years, I’ve noticed that good old Steve Madden has been upping his prices and moving into (or trying to) a more high end image.  This is not a problem.  This is a function of America’s economic system.

What is a problem is charging anywhere from $200 to nearly $300 for a pair of shoes that has the quality level of a $40-$100 pair.

I bought a pair of boots at the end of spring last year on sale.  The price was very nice as the retail was about $200.  And the shoes LOOK great.  But the sole is wooden on the inside and out.  A flat boot with absolutely NO padding in the sole for $200?

One thing I will say about Madden is that while his shoes are outrageously priced initially (for the quality and brand) they can go on deep discount, not all but some.

This pair of boots is almost exactly the pair I’m talking about that I purchased.

Tweet us and let me know if you agree/disagree with my opinion.  I’d love to hear from you.
