Getting to know your Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Winners: Joseph Altuzarra

Joseph Altuzarra

The next women’s design winner from the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation winners we’d like to get to know a little better is Joseph Altuzarra. It was last January when the Style File blog named him a reason to look forward to fashion week, so this honor comes as no surprise.

“I was an art history major who sent his rĂ©sumĂ© to Marc Jacobs on a whim. I feel like I’ve spent the past few years playing catch-up, learning what goes into making a dress,” he told Style File at that time.

After short stints at Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler and Givenchy, Altuzarra launched his eponymous line with a Spring 2009 collection. His three collections have focused on the modern professional woman, and can be viewed on his Web site at the link above. With less of a red carpet appeal, his popularity has been more in fashion editorial (and editors – Carine is a fan) than celebrity culture. (A good thing, in our book.)

“The women around me inspire me — my friends Melanie Huynh, Lauren Santo Domingo, my mother and my business partner, Coline Choay,” he says. “I like women who don’t apologize, women with a point of view.”
