Lookbook alert – Jean Paul Gaultier for Target

Gaultier for Target favorites

Far be it from me to criticize Jean Paul Gaultier or his styling ability. But. I find the lookbook for his upcoming collection for Target a bit baffling. While I've culled a few personal favorites that are more along the normal spectrum for the image above, I think you'll see what I mean below. Some of the pieces themselves are questionable. Do you really want to be putting ugly snake print leggings out to middle America in the name of high fashion? Then, in some cases, it's hard to see the quality and style of a piece because of the way it's styled with a more shocking, less chic item. For instance, the brown leather bomber that is paired with a garish print bathing suit. (Body suit? I just can't tell. Either way I doubt anyone will be putting the items together quite like that.)

Gaultier for target not favorites

There are clearly some lovely pieces that Gaultier fans who can't afford his normal range will be excited to have in their closet - adorable dresses and that updated classic trench in particular. But the mishmash mix of separates seems to include a lot of stuff that could have been left on the drawing board. The line debuts March 7 at prices ranging from $17.99 (bikini separates) to $199 (leather jackets).
