It’s very hard selecting the top designers in fashion. This is especially the case when they are all creating at a high level; but each year the British Fashion Awards does just that. What’s really eye opening is the list of designers named for best designer for 2012. The nominees are: Christopher Kane, Mary Katrantzou, Stella McCartney. Yeah, it’s that hard. Mary Katrantzou had an incredible year being featured no less than 10 times in major fashion publications. A lot of editor here at PD call Katrantzou the queen of prints. She’s nearly without a peer in creating prints. Her collection ranges from bold to daring and everything in between those two.
Stella McCartney has also had a standout year taking a classic polished decidedly English aesthetic to her most recent collections. PD highlighted her resort 2013 collection that debuted in New York.
Christopher Kane’s resort 2013 collection was split between an experiment in beauty and some sort of adherence to art. What did this get him? He received accolades across the board both from buyers and the fashion intelligentsia.
Picking the best designer of the year? Yeah, this is going to be hard.
