To the Gods at Gap this is just a personal observation. I walked into the 6th avenue Banana Republic in NYC. Normally I run into the store to pick up something when a. all my clothes are in the laundry and there’s nothing to wear or b. I need something for an event and the store is nearby. Walking into this new Monogram store was a bit of a shell shock. The village is going a bit upscale (much of Manhattan is that way), but this Monogram shop idea is ridiculously bad and here’s an outline as to why:
The pricepoints are way too high. There is not enough merchandise in the store. Understanding where to go is like trying to navigate a minefield. And the pricepoints are way too high (for anything Banana Republic, Monogram or not).
You can change the name, you can redecorate, but it is still Banana Republic by association.
And not to put an arrow in the heart of the beast while it is still dragging it’s lifeless body gasping for air, but what’s with all the merchandise being sold out on the Monogram website? Is your company trying to sell clothes or just show cool pictures of clothes no one will ever be able to purchase?
I. Just. Don’t. Get. It.

The Press Can Be Harsh
That’s the only thing that can sum up the press’ infatuation with being mean is damn. While designer Sadie Frost left herself completely open for this one it’s still a low blow. Who doesn’t wear the same outfit twice even if it is 4 years later? This is not exactly a Bjork swan dress moment. BIG DEAL, why does it matter. The only quip is that she is a designer, she could in theory find something else to wear. What should really matter is the string of bad movies she’s to which she’s worn this dress: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and now Beyond The Rave?(the jury is still out on the latter) Looks like the dress is 4 years older as well. Here’s the photo via The Daily Mail:

Parodies are Funny, No Really

Could not help but thoroughly enjoy the Observer’s parody of the Vogue cover discussed ’round the world. On one end in the straight laced realm there’s this picture of Lebron James holding Tom Brady’s gurl in his massive ape-like arms and on the other end, in the parody there’s a caricature of Anna Wintour holding her boss Si Newhouse in her ape-like arms though she wears no shades. Here’s a recommendation: in the future if anyone comes up with a cover like that, take a step back from the camera and rethink the entire angle.

Here’s to hoping that someone rescued Gisele from that hip-hopping, ball player, thug person post photo shoot.
When you look closer, it almost seems as if she’s tamed the great ape in this shot:

The Return
After a much needed holiday vacation we’re back with our regular posting and normal endless streams of consciousness. If you’re wondering what happened to the old “new” look, the answer is simple, you. We were inundated with votes against our new coke site and decided to tone it down with something a bit more friendly. Happy New Year!

I live in the fashion capital…not
If Reuters attended last season’s New York fashion week, they would be signing a different tune.
I was going to end the post there but you know how sometimes I get all wordy and attempt to explain myself while not making any sense in the process. Try as I might and how it may be futile I will simply say this: New York is daring, New York has money, but is New York creative? Je ne sais pas. I’m going to personally go with London. And if you don’t believe me, check out their runways.

Style Prophet: Canadian Designer Leads Fashion's Future
Stephanie Nolasco
At the age of fourteen, Lacy Barry was given a religious premonition of her future with fashion. The word "ephoe," a plural form of the eight ritual garments worn by Jewish high priests, appeared in her dream. Barry, age 24, is the founder of Ephoe Inc., a label whose influences come from lush tropical colors, Audrey Hepburn and Victorian couture... [Go]
