Liz and DVF on the Seventh Ave Walk of Fame

Thursday, May 15th, 2008 | Everything | No Comments

Fashion Walk of Fame

Oh you didn’t know? Yes, when you’re in New York if you go down the garment district (aka fashion ave) and you look down you will see a fashion avenue walk of fame featuring luminaries you know, and some you may not. Liz Claiborne will be posthumously added to the Walk and Diane von Furstenberg gets a star as well. Both of these names were long in coming but they’ve arrived on seventh ave with great fanfare. In addition, the plaque will feature one of their designs next to their name. If you’re in New York, this is definitely worth a checkout.

Do it yourself fashion week in Chicago

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008 | Everything | 2 Comments

Elisia Hang-FuYou have to admire designers that work through various issues, against all odds and go out to get things done. A great example of this is what happened earlier this week with Chicago Fashion week. An unscrupulous promoter setup this fashion week event, couldn’t get 4 designers into the U.S., couldn’t sell tickets, lost the major sponsor, and told the designers showing at the last minute that the event was being canceled… postponed.

So what do the designers do? The go and create their own show. The four designers (Berny Martin, James De Colon, Elysia Hang-Fu and Jorge Del Busto) showing during this fashion week are newcomers to the scene but you have to admire their spirit and tenacity against adversity to hold their own show after getting just a little shafted. So, if you’re going to be in Chicago tonight, visit their show at 7pm near the grand ballroom at Navy Pier.

Kate and Kass for the Fa.. Spring 08

Monday, April 21st, 2008 | Everything | No Comments

Kate and Kass

This was part of the Kate and Kass fall 07 collection, but please put your faith in the fact that you will be able to wear this for the Spring 08 season. Don’t let a number discourage you. The Kate and Kass collection is tops here in the office. There’s every intention to show off some of the neat-o tunics for the Spring 08 collection, but this was never trotted out and the thinking here is, why not bring it out now. Definitely a keeper for the spring if you’re adventurous enough.

Nina Garcia’s Little Black Book of Style

If you enjoyed the redesigned September Elle and want a little more fashion talk from Fashion Director Nina Garcia, you’re in luck. The Project Runway judge and editrix has release a new book of style tidbits entitled The Little Black Book of Style. Magazine-length pieces and fantastic illustrations by Ruben Toledo make it a quick, but aesthetically edifying, read.

According to Ms. G, a style icon knows how to edit, to invest in “the bones,” to buy with drama, the utmost importance of shoes, the power of accessories, a good tailor and more. And of course, if you don’t already know these tenets of fashion, Garcia goes through them each letting you in on little secrets along the way.
