Mother’s Day Gift Guide - Water Mint Sake

water-mint-sake

Nothing smells better than one of Mom’s home-cooked meals - until the meal is over, that is! Much like the post-college grad living in the basement, lingering food odors like garlic, fish and onion in the air or on the skin wear out their welcome pretty quickly. What’s Mom to do? As far as the free-loading 20-something is concerned, Mom’s on her own. Scaring away food smells is more easily accomplished with the help of the Gourmet Kitchen Water Mint Sake line by Upper Canada. This fresh selection of kitchen cleaning and beauty products, ranging from decadent shea butter moisturizer to counter spray, combines the essences of water mint, orange, sandalwood, vanilla, and sake to cancel out menacing odors while creating a refreshing and uplifting sensory experience she’ll enjoy whether or not she’s been stirring things up in the kitchen. Plus, the crisp, contemporary look of the packaging makes this a much cooler Mother’s Day gift than that ho-hum, overdone brunch and bouquet. So give her something new she’ll really like - you really do owe her after all those years spent haunting her basement.

Papierdoll April 2007 issue

Nicole Miller

The 2007 issue of Papierdoll hits your screens today and batting leadoff is Samantha Cabrera’s look at vibrant Spring colors for the woman who only knows black in terms of color. Here’s an excerpt from her article:

Marc Jacobs showed gorgeous sack dresses in all-white…surely I can pull off something in that area, since they leave room for flaws. Parading down the catwalk at Prada were gobs of satins and silks in the most ravishing colors ever. Even better, the color palette had a strong array of dark colors. Rich red, a deep amethyst and even black, were reinvented so that they were alarmingly appropriate for spring. For someone entering the world of color, these dark colors are a good place to start as opposed to jumping into a Pepto-pink something or other.

The Fashion Tastemakers

Tory Burch

Looked on Forbes today and saw an interesting article on the fashion tastemakers. There were some obvious names and not so. Obvious includes Marc Jacobs (when not in rehab and sometimes even in rehab) and Nicolas Ghesquiere (when coming out of a bowl hat daze) who happened to get great photos in the slideshow (I could just eat that Nicolas Ghesquiere up). The not so obvious and this is my personal opinion, Hedi Slimane. When did Forbes become so underground? Ok, designing Dior Homme is not “underground” per se’, but when the designer looks like a frontman for the Pogues, underground is almost appropo. We’re not forgiving the Tory Burch mention though.
