Sex and the City Watch: Day 99

Sex and the City

No there is no real Sex and the City Watch going on, but there might as well be all things considered. This movie is getting more buzz than The Devil Wears Prada. It’s not hard to see why as every sort of minutiae is being thrown in from what the characters eat, to the actual wedding scenes (that wasn’t a spoiler), to the designers being used. In this vein The LA Times blog looks at Pat Fields magician-like precision when it comes to striking the tone between the Carrie Bradshaw that was and the Carrie Bradshaw that is now. She looks at the character several years later and her fashion tastes have not so much grown as she as evolved”. Fields is quoted as saying,

“I saw Carrie a little more sexy, a little more evolved, a little more calm with herself as a woman, she was still going through her eclectic things, and she was gaining in her profession.”

The movie comes out at the end of May. To read more of the fashion production notes visit the LA Times blog here.

Where are They Going?

Michael Kors

Here’s a random question for you. Since the advent of the fashion photo shoot, designers have been in love with the whole airplane-runway to black car theme. The question is, what message are they trying to convey with the whole going somewhere theme? A recent ad that got this question to come up is Michael Kors’ campaign for his signature perfume line. Again we see a beautiful woman apparently just exiting a plane and going directly to her waiting car. While we can smell the perfume, we just know she’s wearing Michael Kors. How could she not be? She is a trendsetter jumping from one locale to another and if she’s going to wear a perfume that enables her to do this sort of thing, it must be Kors.

And while Michael is not the only one who does this sort of jet setting ad it is the most recent example. Granted there’s nothing wrong with it, you just have to wonder the point of it all. Wouldn’t it be much simpler to have a photo of the bottle against a white background? If you like anything Michael Kors, surely you will love his perfume whether on a runway or a white background? Right?

The $9 Dress Heard Round the World

Sarah Jessica ParkerIf one were to take a trip into Sarah Jessica Parker’s mind and see what she were thinking what would it be like? The question comes up because the news last week was about how she wore a $9 dress on the red carpet at the The Cinema Society’s event. Now normally SJP wears shoes that cost more than some folks’ wardrobe, but this time she went down the shameless self-promotion avenue and wore a dress that costs $8.98. So what was she thinking, what was in her mind? Possibly when she threw it on, there was pain. De constructing the photo one can infer that there’s this tortured smile with a yearning for Chanel, or Narcisso or (insertunaffordabledesignerhere).

While the Bitten line she’s selling at Steve and Barry’s has it high points, this beach dress from the Love Boat era is not one of them. And so SJP a bit of advice, if you’re going to create something for the masses to wear (which in and of itself is a noble cause), make it something current that everyone will actually want to wear.. Please

Bob Colacello is Out

Bob Colacello

I’ve been waiting for event for awhile. While news of Bob Colacello’s 2nd printing was out there, the question was when it would happen. It’s happening now and we received an invite today (see above). What hasn’t been said about Bob Colacello and what hasn’t this man put on paper. Having been a close confidant of Andy Warhol and editor at Interview magazine, Colacello has seen it all. Somehow he’s managed to invite us to his book signing on Saturday with cocktails (i’m definitely going to be there, so stopping by is a must to say hello at least).

Here’s the info on the event:
Where: ADAM / 678 Hudson Street (NYC)
Date: Saturday, May 3rd
Time: 2 - 4 PM

PS: Our review of the book is going up later next week on the magazine side in required reading, because any book the covers New York City nightlife with Jack Nicholson, Cher, Raquel Welch, Yves Saint Laurent, Andy Warhol, Diana Vreeland is bound to be a must read.

Getting Off The Heels

Pierre Hardy

Commenter Joy An left a quick quip on a recent post that maybe women should stop wearing high heels altogether if they can’t manage walking in them, nevermind the pain that comes with walking on a pair of 6 inchers. Gwyneth Paltrow obviously is paying no attention to Joy An as she’s ameliorating the heel pain by going to the doctor and getting holistic treatment for her back. The question is does she have a back ailment from routine aging like some people do, or is it a direct result of wearing ultra-high heels. Most would vote for the latter ahead of the former.

It’s hard not to want to wear something super-ultra luxuriously high, especially when it adds inches and creates a gorgeous silhouette, but Joy An, your point it taken. Heels are not for the faint of heart, or feet.

Style Prophet: Canadian Designer Leads Fashion's Future
Stephanie Nolasco

At the age of fourteen, Lacy Barry was given a religious premonition of her future with fashion. The word "ephoe," a plural form of the eight ritual garments worn by Jewish high priests, appeared in her dream. Barry, age 24, is the founder of Ephoe Inc., a label whose influences come from lush tropical colors, Audrey Hepburn and Victorian couture... [Go]
