The Sex in the City ads are effing everywhere. It is inescapable. There’s absolutely no way you can hide from it. They are now forever part of the fashion ethos online. The same folks that went to see Devil Wears Prada will be dragging their boyfriends to see Sex in the City and ogling some male character. Last time it was Adrian Grenier, this time it may possibly be a tossup between Chris Noth and that guy who plays Smith… What’s his name again?
Vitamin Water is apparently passionate about Sex in the City as well. To that end they have teamed up with the HBO for some sort of Sex in the City promotion. The interesting thing is they are giving a lucky winner the chance to fly to New York and attend the premiere. Imagine rubbing elbows with SJP and Mathew Broderick in tow…Are you swooning yet? The Vogue Hello Kitty Cover

It’s no surprise that Hello Kitty graces the cover of Japanese Vogue. Word is that in Japan, Hello Kitty is a DemiGod, soon to be getting her own TV channel. The inescapable news that’s been making the rounds is that John Galliano outfitted in the character in everything Dior for the Fall season. Word is the photoshoot editorial is supremely cute and supremely Kitty. The Vogue cover as you can see is splashed with fashion (take note ivory tower Conde Nast in New York) and Kitty. It really does all work out in some weird fashion. As an aside, don’t you just wish the Vogue covers in America were less Today showish, celebrity-of-the-moment, how to improve your life through yoga (no knock on Yoga) and more something, in the vein of… Carine Roitfeld?

Half Crab Half Torture Device

Sandal makers get more and more ingenious with every single iteration of their foot contraptions. This one from Tory Burch looks like it is half crab and half torture device. This is not to say there are negative feelings towards this sandal. It is indeed super beautiful. The question is what to make of it on first glance. Was it inspired by some sort of medieval movie or dream? Was it simply created confuse? Whatever the case it’s loved by everyone here. In both sand and black.

Armani Never Selling out…at least not till 90
You will pry my company from my cold dead 90 year old hands was Giorgio Armani’s retort to a suggestion that he might go the way of Roberto Cavalli and sell his company to someone else. His main reasoning: he doesn’t need a partner who constantly focuses on numbers and the bottom line. He’s concerned about beauty. While there’s no doubt Armani has a legion of accountants to make sure he’s solvent, it’s pretty much certain that he calls the shots and no one can tell him what to do… ever.
Here’s the direct quote from WWD:
I am fine alone now, but not when I’ll be 90, [Funds] just want to make money and then leave. How could I talk to someone who only cares about the figures? I would rather consider a real partner, perhaps a group that already has a connection with us, that we know and that could complete the relationship with us.

No and Yes
The Star (UK) writes that this shirt is a top five fashion trend for the summer.

Yasmin Le Bon in a Linea cream ruffle blouse £79, House of Fraser
In a word…No.
For further analysis it can be simply said that you will probably look like some sort of hobbled bird with this ruffled blouse. Then one can make the argument that their needs to be some sort of practicality wearing said shirt, but that’s a hollow argument since the overarching subject of fashion is by it’s very nature impractical. How does one eat in this shirt, does the top shoulder section slip off repeatedly? Why the double layer of ruffles? See how explaining a no gets all convoluted? Coincidentally, their Safari Chic pick is a winner:

On Papierdoll

Papierdoll July 2008 Interview
Interview: Thomas Voorn
Sonia Pereira Murphy
Considering the now ubiquitous trend of disposable fashion where all that seems to matter is a cute factor, Thomas Voorn's intellectual take on clothing is not only refreshing, but enlightening. Voorn's fascination with clothing calls to mind an anthropologist intrigued with skeletal remains, a sociologist... [Go]
